wrird knocking/ticking noise Thu, 07 August 2003 05:20 Go to next message
on cold start, my engine makes a knocking/ticking sound, 2 or 3 knocks per sec, for about a minute (if left idling)

I've no idea what this is, but I'm guessing it's not good and probably terminal. anyone know what it could be?

my MA70 supra does that too, i am quite sure it is a valve related thing in my case. It's a ticking kinda sound, and definetly is coming form under the cam cover.

That would mean no oil pressure anywhere in engine and also glowing oil pressure light.

Pistons often makes some noises when cold.

ok, so hopefully not terminal then.
the tapets are a bit noisy even when warm, so I'm guessing it's not 100% under there.

it kinda fits in well with the awful noise my power steering pump is making Smile
