I'd personally not rebuild them yourself, unless you have the kit to balance them at silly RPM!!! send them off to a specialist and PRAY they are rebuildable!!!! mine woren't so I bought brand spanking new shiney ones Surprised

I just sent my ct20 away for a rebuild and highflow. $750. but the shaft and bore had to be machined as it had been run with low oil pressure for a while...

What would 2 ct12 cost brand new??? It might be worth buying some brand newies and being absolutely sure!

nope!!! its onlt a tiny 2.0 engine.. single turbos tend to lag on them!!! The toyota turbos are VERY well made,, and match the engien perfectly, they are good for 1.5 bar boost (more then I'd want to run) and spool up very quickly... on a small and very sad not I like my motor to look stock with all teh stock heat sheilds that only fit the std turbos (mine are polished like mirrors tho.. err shiney stock then LOL

I know of people that have put a T4 on the 1G, said it boosted well adn gave good power.. but too much lag, my car is a fast road car not an out and out racer and I'd have drivability over top power.... if I really wanted to fast I'd have a tuned 1JZ Wink

thanks

ps. thats what toyota charge Wink I payed half price for mine thru a friend with a tuning company Wink I asked him about upgrades he says they are good units anyway...unless your going mad and uprating teh bottom end... these will generate enoguh boost to kill a stock motor anyway LOL

How much is enough to kill a stock motor though? TRACTION_ISSUE's car put out over 300rwhp without an internal being touched on his ~150000km engine.

With a single turbo conversion, these guys aren't talking old-school T4's, they mean the newer GT series Garrett and HKS ball-bearing turbos.

depends what you call serious power... on top of that I'd add billet crank, billet rods, replace all fasners with uprated ARP ones, and uprate the big ends....

then you can really wind up the boost, and yes one larger turbo will give more boost.. you'll still have lag tho!!! if you building a car purely for serious dragging thats not a problem... this is my daily car.. (my drag project starting soon is a mk1 MR2 with a sorted 3S-GTE, supra is to heavy to drag, when you can get 500 bhp out of an engine that'll fit in a little MR2, thats mid mounted and RWD for the launch)

depends what you want out of your car, I personally would not spend all that money ona 1G engine, if I was that keen I'd use a 1JZ, even a 2jz (I personaly prefer the 1)

depends what your after... I don't like lag, my car is a street cruiser with some poke, not a racer.. if it was a racer it'd be stripped out and NOT be an aerotop Wink I hold drivability over everything else.... you see theses mad tuned cars with BIG power.. but a VERY narrow powerband... pretty crap for day to day street use Razz reason I like my 1G is the wide smooth powerband..

2,0 engine is small. freind of mine has an HKS T4 on her scooby, its fast, but in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd she canlt get full boost ad it takes so long to spool up, and thats ona roller bearing! only 4th and 5th is she in teh gear long enough to make full use of it!!! changing for longer ratios is not raelly a great idea for a fast acellerating car... shes getting a nitrous fogger systen to help her with her lag problems LOL bless.

How bout choosing a turbo that is matched to a 2l engine? A HKS GT2530 or better still the GT-RS could provide the same if not better boost response than the factory turbos and a much bigger mid-range and top end.

according to my tuner these units are good for 400-450 bhp.

sounds a "bit optomistic" to me but hey don;t shoot the messenger!!!

one other silly point lol the 1G-GTE twin turbo mk3 supra is hardly common. esp a manual one, and an aerotop on top of that.. maybe it is more common in aus but they are pretty much unheard of here... WAY rare-er then the 1JZ version. if I swapped it for a single it'd not be a rare twin turbo 2.0 anymore lol. this is the same reason why I am keeping the bodywork std too Wink

Hehe, GA70 Supras are pretty rare too, because we got the MA70 of the same era you couldn't import the GA70. Its only now after the 15 year rule we have a few, but SFA of them would be the Aero ones.

Thats a different reason though, but understandable, I hope my Blitz modified CT12's are good Smile

what was moreboost putting out to continually kill bottom ends.. I think they ended up finding the perfect threshold of the bottom end. but ofcourse you wouldnt wanna go to close to that power wise for a street driven car, but I'd definatly say 400hp at the rear wheels is achievable on the standard bottom end.

Thats what I initially wanted the blitz CT-12s... or "standard" hybrid CT-12s... my old ones were beyond rebuilding, couldn't get an blitz ones fast and wanted my car back lol. Tell me how they are tho, I'm interested!! they'd also keep that "tidy stock look"

to be honest the way more common MA-70 turbo supra is faster, tho the 7M is a bit kinda "lazy". low revving, makes up for it with silly amounts of bottom end torque. (I had 3 supras now, 7M-ge, 7M-GTE, and this one) like I say its not as fast, I just like it as its a bit "different" people have already offerend me twice what I payed for the car but I'm hanging on (another uk problem is RUST! with all out rain.. my baby is 100% rust free.. nice LOL) gotta love the 1jz engine tho. the revability of teh 1g, but loads of power and bottom end torque!!! used to have 2 1J soarers.. but like I said. I'm really really skint these ddays Sad

I'm probably some kinda supra eccentric or something that has his own little rules that don;t make a lot of sense to others LMAO aw well....

Lets hope the Blitz ones go good tucked into my lighter Celica XX Smile

The turbos - Ignore the scuffed ID tag, someone must've tried to remove it, but the turbos have virtually 0 play in them Very Happy

I'll bet the 1G is amazing in a lighter car!!!!

put it in a lard arsed supra it struggles a bit.. even tho mine is a "light weight" narrow body LOL thats why I like bottom end tourque asap!!!

do you know what Blitz do to the CT-12?

As far as I can gather from the translated Japanese on their site before they removed it, they said something along the lines of high-flowing and strengthening...

makes sense I guess LOL

apparently the "T" pipe where the turbos meet and lead to the downpipe is very restricive, as the exhaust gasses are blowing right at each other before they find their way to the downpipe... have you heard this theory? not sure how much difference it makes.. but it makes sense!

It makes sense, the concept of Y-pipes is being discussed in another thread, but the problem with the 1G is how the turbos are so close together, it'd be a really difficult task to achieve.

yeah.. I noticed they were a *bit* close..
the only way I couls see it working is one goes to the left.. the other to the right... kind yin yan stylee....

the question is... how much difference eould this actually make????

fair play the "big players" might see a benefit... but is it worth if for people like me that just want a bit of fun on an "almost stock" setup.. (sssssssssssh at the back, the nos barely gets used)

if it WAS a big factor.... could we do a group disvount thing?? I accemp I live away from most 1G people... but maybe its an idea? we need to know how much benafit we'd get!!!

I reckon there'd be a HUGE difference with the turbos spooling up much quicker and just a general smoother flow for the exhaust gasses.

I'd love to do a twin pipe mod.

My car isn't on the road, but if someone works out how to do it and works out how to do it, I'd have to come up with the money for it, they 1JZ guys swear by it...

well......

I got an industrial design degree behind my belt.. it helps.... if there was enough interest we could do a groun buy thing.. teh more that invest the lower the costs get... I got teh buying power of a website (a VERY small, VERY quiet and VERY amature one.. pc's aont my thang)

now you guys all live in aus (I guess) so if I draghted up enough plan and arranged a supplied for a small batch.. but got it made in aus.. maybe we'd be barking up the right tree!!!
my (dead) site is www.suprasonic.co.uk (for those that care lol)

if peopel are really interested maybe we can do something???? (this fits in with my anally retentive "keep it near stock" rules...)

LOL

looking at it I think it IS to tight for a tubulat design...

think there would be a benefit form a "central wall" to stop the gasses putting "back preasure" on each other but not teh kinda thing you can knock up without vast amounts of machining/casting.

not really gonna be worth it guys Sad

From memory the stock cast iron dump pipe has lots of room for improvement if you took the time to open it up a bit. Has anyone tried this?

definatly, it's just a big bit of tube like a ball with 3 holes on it. one for each turbo and one for the exhaust. the space you have to work with is the major problem. I was gunna see what someone could do as I had a spare set of turbos to work on. Anyone got a dead set of turbos and manifolds?
