Starting 4AGTE project for my AW11.....

Hi All.....
I'm slowly starting on a 4AGTE project, for my aw11.....
and as per the usual, I've got a couple of question......
1) I'm currently looking at a turbo off the RB20 (Skyline) engine.
Are these T25 turbos? I'm looking at purchasing Carl's manifold
(Turbo manifold for AW11 and fits the T25/T28 turbo),
and downpipe to fit this, hence, the question about RB20 turbo.
2) I'm also looking for aftermarket ECUs..... and I'm debating on
the Wolft 3d Version 4 and the Haltech E6X or E6K. I like the
Wolf 3D V 4 as it's got more load point, etc, but the Haltech is
more popular so I could get a 4AGTE map.
Thanks in advance.....
MIKE.

yep, like Ribbo said, RB20 definately will not fit. You would be doing yourself a favour to rather go for a pre 1996 S14 200SX T28 turbo, firstly because it can be easily and cheaply rebuilt, second, it has a steel wheel (more reliable than the RB20 ceramic turbine) and most importantly, you can bolt on any of the aftermarket Garrett GT25/28 series turbochargers without changing the manifold or dump pipe
You dont need more load points than the Haltech has, so dont base your decision on that. Rather look at how easy the tuning software is to use, and how good the after sales support is. And no 4AGTE map will be suitable for your car from another haltech, all engine configurations are different (injectors, cams, exhaust, turbo, intercooler etc etc), and will still require a lot of tuning once installed.
Cheers
Phil

OK, hope to dyno later this week or early next week. Have to get bigger fuel lines and surge tank fitted first. Won't go over 14/15 psi, just to keep things reliable and preserve the turbo.
I originally had an RB20 turbo on it for about 2 weeks, and that was dynoed at 144 HP @ 15 psi; but that turbo had a blown oil seal, so I got rid of it pretty quick.

Hi All....
Thanks all for your replies.... Very handy info.....
OptionUp..... Thanks for your info, certainly good to know. Let
us know your results from the Dyno..... I would love to run
the T25 or T28 turbo, but they are hard to find, and when you
do find them, they cost an arm and a leg. Are you located in
Perth?
Corvid.... Carl's Manifold is a replica of the old HKS AW11
turbo upgrade manifold (Stage 1). Below are some of the links:
Carl's Manifold :

Or alternative info :
http://www.jgstools.com/turbo/thk.html
There is heaps of info out there regarding manifolds, etc.
Sprinterboy4AGze..... at this stage it is only in the details
planning stage, as I'm still very busy with other stuff. I'm
planning on running about 1 bar boost.
TE72_Turbo.... Thanks for the info... U are right, I should
pick the one I'm most comfortable with.... both have pros and
cons, but I'm more leniant towards the Wolf ECU, due to price
and various other features which the Haltech does not offer.
I'm looking for a T25/T28, but as indicated before, they are hard
to find.... Tempting to go for a GT25 turbo, and maybe I will,
if budget allows......
Ribbo..... Thanks for the info, I assumed the RB20 turbo was the
same as the SR20 turbo, just different trim.
Thanks again for all your help.... But if you want to give me
any more info, please let me know.....
Thanks
MIKE.

I just wired up a Wolf 3D V4 on my 20V and it all went really easy. If I had any questions I would just email Steve at Wolf and he would always reply really quickly (within a 24hrs usually). I am very happy with it so far, but the only thing I am dissapointed with is that I don't get to use all the cool stuff like boost control, and turbo timer etc. (not yet anyway!)
But I highly recommend it. I think they just dropped their price recently too.

kassma: yes I am in Perth.
You're right: good turbos are hard to find for a decent price. The RB20 turbo (off an R32 GTS-T Skyline) I originally had on the car I found after about 3 weeks looking; bought privately for just under $300, but then it smoked as soon as it was on the car - it looked in very good condition when I bought it, so that was just my bad luck. I was faced with the following options with this turbo: rebuild with new seals for $500, or rebuild with replacement all steel cartridge for $1200, or find another second hand turbo. Luckily, my mechanic came across the RB25 turbo in good condition from a car that was known to them, so I picked that up for about $500. In other words, I wasted $300 on the first turbo, which I imagine is worthless now since no one wants to buy a blown turbo!
If you have the money I would seriously consider buying new: I was quoted around $1350 for a GT25 turbo from TurboTech in Ascot (which sounded too good to be true, so you could follow them up on that), or just over $1400 for a replacement T28 BB turbo for a S15 Silvia/200SX from Nissan Parts in Melville.

Hello again.....
Seadog.... Did you know much about installing an aftermarket
ECU prior to installing your Wolf3d? I have never installed
an aftermarket ECU, but I know quiet a bit about electronics to
find my way around....... If you don't mind me asking, how much
did you pay for the Wolf3d V4? I got quoted about $1350 with
hand piece a while back... now they just ask me to go to a rep
here in Perth. What other components do you need to get the
Wolf working?
OptionUP.... Thanks for that info... That is a bit of bad luck.
I had a similar incident with buying a T25 turbo of ebay. Paid
$270 for the turbo, T25 M24 turbo, sent the money to Tasi, but
never received the turbo. Tried contacting, calling, etc, but
never replied back.... 2.5 months later, I lodged a complaint to
ebay, and they re-imbursed me $200.... But yes, I know how you
feel. I saw a similar turbo (M24) in one of the shops here in
Perth (Willetton) going for $500, but was sold when I tried to
buy it. $1350 for a T25BB turbo.... Geesh! Last time I checked
they were still up in the $1750.... I might just give TurboTech
a call, as that is a good price.... mind you $1400 For a T28
sounds good too.... hard choice.... might remain with the T25,
as I'm only planning at about 250-260Hp (@engine) max. With
those kind of HP, I'll be able to get the AW11 into the low 13s.
Thanks again for the info......
MIKE.
