Just wanting to know if the item circled in red in this image is the catylinic converter??? on a first gen 3SGTE

http://www.geocities.com/j_a_w_s_0/images/catques.jpg

Edit: didn't realise the pic wouldn't work so you can link to see the image here http://www.geocities.com/j_a_w_s_0/images/catques. jpgMad

Or if you still can't get it, explanation...

Atfer the turbo our have the outlet pipe, then there is a chunky item bolted on between the oulet pipe and the rest of the system, Has a couple of wires out of it, a 3SGTE owner will know what I am talking about... I hope.

Presuming its a similar setup to the Gen2, then yeah thats the *first* cat. There is another one further down the pipe (about under the gearstick).

Most aftermarket dump pipes get rid of this restrictive and VERY heavy item. You can save a good 8kg or more by replacing it.

This is the Gen2:

These are the Aussie Exhaust dump pipes.. much better flow and lots lighter too! Smile http://www.amberaspley.com/gt4/pics/ExhaustDay/dum p_pipes_going_OS.JPG

The "couple of wires" is the heated oxygen sensor.

Yep thats the same thanks spectral.

Sorry about the pics not working the site I usually host on is having problems logging me in to upload my pics.

Does it cause any problems if I got rid of the Standard outlet pipe and "First" cat, and just replaced it with say, a 3" dump of the turbo to a 2 1/2" system? it wouldn't screw up the standard comp with that heated oxygen sensor?

Sorry for the probably dumb question, but first Turbo... Embarassed

I got mine from Neal Bates Auto at hume, basically same dump as on the rally cars, goes very nice, not excessively loud (legal), but adds the power!!! Very Happy

Full exhaust and manifold machining was just over $2000 but you would hope you wouldn't need to machine the manifold, and replace the gasket.
