$10,000 on ta22

Ok, Im getting bout $10,000 next month, was gonna buy a newer car but i have done a toymods sin by having my 74' ta22 sitting in the garage gathering dust and becoming a cosy home for spiders. I have decided to spend the money on the poor baby to get her on the road and looking nice. It has a new paint job, but i was planning to allocate the funds to the following:
(All prices have been guessed )
Engine $3000
-3T GTE with W55 box and some mods
Interior $2000
-SAAS racing seats with 4 point harness belts
-No back seat, who needs it hopefully those racing seats recline right back
-Fully retrimmed door skins and dash with custom gauges etc
Wheels $2000
Not sure what wheels, looking for 17 inch chrome
Stereo $2000
Suspension $1000
Not sure
Just wondering what ppl's opinion is on this, any suggestions would be great

Don't it suck when you start to add it up.
Don't forget Engineering, Exhaust, Brakes etc.
You could make a really nice car witha good TA22 and 10g's but you might have to think about spreading that money a little further.

Well i have not fully decided on the engine, i thought the 3t cuz it would be a fairly easy conversion. I either wanted a mean turbo or nice v8. So thats why i thought the 1uz would be nice, but i havent done much research on the 4age or 1g gte.

I think your priorities are slightly out of whack.
Powerful Engine + Racing seats + 4 point harness + $2000 Stereo + $1000 handling mods on a vintage car
= Thumping out tunes from a ditch while you wait for the tow truck.
Besides that, mmmmm.. fun...

Here is what i would do....
------------------
Engine $5000 (not $3k)
- 4A-GTE with a FAAAAT sucker of a turbo and aftermarket ECU
Interior $1000 (not $2k)
- Simple sport style reclinable and adjustable seats. (most SAAS you will find are fixed, meaning NO sik-cuz recline)
- Do my own retrim of the doors etc in something simple
Wheels $1000 (not $2k)
- piss off the heavy chrome stuff, its an old school car dude! Get some classy 16" simmons F90's or Billets or similar classic style rim.
Stereo $0 (not $2k)
- Big stereos are for hatches and lancers, not old school machines, you wanna be able to hear the engine!!
- Save this one for when everything else is done.
Suspension and brakes $3000 (not $1k)
- everything from coil overs to 4 spot calipers to mega swaybars
---------------------
Just suggestions though

Good suggestions, but wouldnt u think 3 grand on suspension and brakes abit overboard, i realise that its important to have better brakes and harder suspension, but i mean 3000 is alot to spend on that wouldnt u think. Plus I love my music, to part with it would be criminal, but the stereo obviously would be the very last thing i do. so what ppl are saying is that the 4a gte would be a better choice then the 3t gte.

$10,000 is pretty easy to spend
I'll give you a ruff list in no particular order
$2100 = 16" Mags\tyres
$900 = Pair of SAAS seats with adaptor bars
$100 = steering wheel
$80 = Bosskit
$100 = tacho
$140 = oil\water gauges
$400 = pioneer head unit
$200 = 6*9 + 6" speakers
$60 = back seat covers
$900 = exaust + extractors
$3500 = full engine rebuild (+ head,manifold ported)
$500 = fully recond 350 holley
$100 new engine mounts (poly ureathane)
= 9000
thats without all the other shit ive bought (alternator, starter motor, coil, spray paint, brakes, accelarator/speedo cable............ theres lots more)

I agree with Witzl. Make it a good car then stuff around with the pretty bits. I have to disagree with the coil-overs though. Don't think I would waste cash on them. Definitly good brakes and some intelligent mods to the suspension.
You might want to think about a diff upgrade while your there.

shite i forgot about the diff... well then add that to the $3000 i allowed for brakes and suspension. That makes it easier to fill
- Hilux brakes = $600
- Swaybars = $500
- Low travel adjustable shocks (eg koni's) = $900
- New low riding high spring rate Springs = $400
- Diff conversion = $600min
There we go. Easy peasy. And that would be the lower end of the market too

You know, it really upsets me when people start talking about how much these things cost. Why doesn't someone spend some time growing a tree that has engine and diff conversions growing on it's branches.
I guess you would only end up with little T series diff for the first few years, but later on down the track you could have a lovely crop of hilux diffs just ripe for a RA28.
hmmm I think I have spent way too long behing this CAD screen today. Might go hame and have a bit of a rest.

I have had a change of plans, i have decided to buy a celica that already has a turbo engine, with wheels, and custom interior, and all that stuff, and hopefully i will save some money to do any further mods to it. So next month i will be in the market to buy one, so if anyone knows of any going up for sale soon, let me know plz

Don't give up, 10g's to spend on an old celica will get you a nice car, especially if you already have the body work finished. You might just have to prioritise you spending a little better.
On the other hand, you could get a really nice celica for 10g's. I think thats about what Dave was asking for his.

$25,000, um just a tad over my budget. But im really hoping to find something nice soon, my poor escort is dying in the ass. I see a few done up sleeka's for around $4-6 grand. So im hoping i can get a realllll nice one for bout $8 - 10. Hopefully something that could beat those annoying Vl turbo's,

If thats all you want, drop an sr20det into your Escort. For an outlay of about 5grand, there wouldn't be too many cars that would out perform that. I wish my Celica only weighed 800kg.

Points against escort
1. Its a ford
2. Square, box shape
3. Its piss yellow
4. Alot more things need to be replaced
5. I dont think $5000 would be enough for an sr20 conversion.
