I got a problem with my fuel consumption.

I can only manage 300-350kms per tank(45 litres).
Car is AE82 gze + oversized crank pulley.

I managed 400kms without the stock crank pulley.

My 4age managed 480-500kms per tank.

Ive talked to several owners of same engines etc.
And mine seems thirsty.

Now before you say its my right lead foot. Im taking in consideration that measured when driving sedately most of the time.

I dont seem to be blowing any smoke at idle etc.
Only when u boot it. A puff of black smoke occurs but i reckon thats normal. Am i running too rich?

How can i fix this problem?

nah mate.. thats about right.. A while back when i was speaking to ppl with Nevo pulleys, they said they drank heaps more than the stock pulley..

My GZE got about 9-10L per 100km..
Remember dude, ur making like 300Nm of torque so of course ur gonna drink and piss at the same time..

I just put a nevo on mine and it is using abit more fuel. But if you baby it, its not to bad. I will fill it up next time and see how I go. I also have farked leads (missing, running on 3cyls) and it GUZZLES!!! Very Happy Very Happy I got some brand new genuine leads now Smile

But yeh i will fill it up and see how i go. Driving it nice with a little boot everynow and then, hope i can help myself.

Edit - Ozcraig : whats a leak tester look like?? Is it just one of those stethascope(spelling?) looking things, like what the doctors use to listen to your chest? But only with a little metal thin tube at the end???

I've had the exact same problem with a stock GZE - driven really gently, the darned thing managed over 16 km/litre. When I drive it the way I LIKE to drive it, it goes down to about km/litre - serious! Evil or Very Mad

I decided to try my gze 'nicely' for the last tank (besides the odd planting of the foot) and I'm at about 470km on this tank.. I will have to fill up when I leave today but I think thats pretty good. Normally I get about just on 400km per tank so I think if you're running the pulley I wouldn't be suprised if economy drops a bit.

I've got a similar problem with my 4age (not gze). I'm lucky to get 100kms from 10 litres. I have a new air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs & timing has been done recently. The only thing that comes up on a diagnostics test is air conditioning (code 51) so i don't thing that it is the O2 sensor. All that leaves is a leak? i don't have a leak tester, is there any other way that i could test it?

10L/100km isn't that bad. Quiet OK really, depending on how you drive.

Yeah i know it's decent but if i can get it better i would like to know how.

Other people seem to get 100kms from 7.5 - 8 liters so i was just wondering where i'm going wrong. I always drive it like an old lady aswell Wink apart from the odd occasion at the traffic lights.
