Ridiculous "Ouote" of the Day!

Just called Toyota to get a spare part price and availability, the dude got his wires crossed and came back with a price for an AE86 digital clock. Out of interest, I asked how much?
FOUR HUNDRED AND EIGHTY SOMETHING DOLLARS!
I'm not quite sure on the exact price as I started laughing and was heard to yell "You're fucking joking aren't you?!!!"

The little optional clock that sits in the middle of my dash is $120+. And that was quoted a couple of years back.
Suffice to say I got along just fine with the clock that is built into the tape deck instead.

Toyota do have bizarre pricing policies, with some stuff dirt cheap (eg ma70 TEMS struts for $73.50 ea) and other ridiculously expensive (as per examples quoted above). However, they do have tonnes of new/replacement parts for their cars - even things like centre console lids for 1990 corollas, and clocks for ae86's. I'd be tempted to ring up and ask what they havve for ke10 corollas - they've probable still got the odd 3K block in stock!

i still rekon their best bargain has got to be the 4A-GZE piston - $84ea at trade!
i nearly pooped my pants at the 18R-GU (8.7:1) piston being $180.00 trade!

I rememebr paying close to $200 for a drivers door handle for a MX73 Cressida not too long after they were new so none in wreckers
And some incredible price for the tail lights too.
And $3600 for a new head (installed) before I knew anything about 7M/ IJZ engine transplants.....this was at the time my parents car.

as i have said b4, get a mitsubishi
then you'll see expensive
and ppl pay the prices too.
dealers have no say on prices, unless trade ect ect.
we have ppl abusing us and we just say, oh well, and mumble to them selves and hang up, half the time i wanna say fuck off and get a holden
i have had a few a few ppl whinge at $200 for a taillight for a magna, and i then tell them the price for a pajero one {$600 odd} and they shut their mouths and hand over their credit card

How about $260 plus tax for a 1G rotor button and only $50 for the cap.
$300 plus tax for a RA28 hatch hinge.

no tailights, bumpers, guards, bonnets etc etc etc...
i did get a rear bumper number plate light for my KE15 (glass and chrome ) ordered from japan for $35.
can still get spark plug tubes (same as 7K) for about $7 ea
ring and pinion gear for KE10 diff, $1000+
hardest part is getting the parts dude to go and grab the microfiche to find part numbers...
anyone have a copy of the old parts microfiche???

Had to dig this up to post the next stupid price I was told for a part:
I've known there has been an auto 2JZGE complete motor, gearbox and computer sitting at one of the local wrecking yards for around two years now, so today I specifically enquired about the loom from it - thats all I wanted - just the loom, no computer, no motor, no gearbox, no coil and ignitor, just the loom: $660!
Now I understand he possibly didn't want to seperate the loom from the package, so I asked how much for the complete package?
$3500!
And he wonders why it's still sitting there?!?!!!

the other day i commented how if for some odd reason i suddendly became obscenly rich.. and i mean *RICH* id love a new mr2... now not a showroom zzw30 new mr2 i mean a NEW aw11... think about it... toyota would surely have a shell in white sitting in a warehouse in japan somewhere. get a shell.. then march down to your local toyota dealer and order *EVERYTHING* sign over a blank cheque and a kidney then start putting it all together... it'd be a brand spanking new 20 year old car

Yeah but surely you'd put some aftermarket bits in place of OEM stuff. Lke suspension, brakes etc. Throw a 1JZ in it too.

A few years back when my parents enquired about some part prices out of curiosity for their rav4.
Clutch: $800
1xHeadlight assembly $600
At the moment I am pricing up Nissan FJ20et gasket sets and getting anywhere from $240 generic to $400+ for Genuine.
Nissan FJ20 Piston Turbo STD Intercooled $161.25
The list goes on

well yeah you could obviously pick and choose the bits, for instance i wouldnt bother with the 4age/gze go straight for a current model 3sgte obvious choice. then suspension pick and choose if you want trd or other aftermarket. brakes well i think st205 factory items would work sufficently.
so yeah it wouldnt be a standard mr2 once done.. but it'd be all NEW gear... so it'd be a NEW 20 year old car and cost you about the same as an exotic. but hell it'd be cool.
