I know that everyone is prolly sick and tired of hearing shit about it but this is news to my ears...
From Fast Fours VIP...
Initial D hits Oz!
21 Oct 03: The Japanese anime street racing DVD, Initial D, is about to hit Australia mid-November. Tofu-delivery boy Tak unwittingly defeats a mountain racing legend and is drawn into the world of street racing in his Toyota ‘Eight Six’. This is the original series, available in both Import Classic (Japanese) or the Tricked Out, enhanced video, English versions.
A smash hit in Japan, Initial D is a TV series featuring illegal street racing gangs who do battle on mountain ridges for the right to claim sections of road as ‘their turf’. The hero of Initial D is a 17-year-old tofu delivery boy named Tak who suddenly finds himself caught up in this heart-stopping and dangerous scene.
Tak drives an "Eight-Six," a street term for the Toyota Trueno AE86. When chance puts him up against street racing's most notorious driver and he actually wins the race, the lure is too much - he's hooked. Word quickly spreads about the famous "Eight-Six of Mount Akina", and more and more rival racers appear to challenge Tak and his friends in a series of white-knuckle contests.
Drift King Keiichi Tsuchiya (D1 champion and star of Best Motoring’s Drift Bible DVD) was the technical consultant for Initial D’s authentic racing scenes.
The Australian release features the original series, known as Stage 1. It will be available as a series of 10 DVDs, each with three episodes and two totally different formats.
For the purists, there is ‘Import Classic’, which is Japanese language with English subtitles. There is also the ‘Tricked Out’ format, which features enhanced video, all new soundtrack and English dialogue.
In a DVD first, you can mix and match your formats, allowing fans to customize their viewing experience. The first volume (Battle 01) is titled Akina’s Downhill Specialist, and will be distributed by Australia’s top-selling modified and performance car DVD distributor, Serious Business.
Episode 1: The Ultimate Tofu Store Drift
As Tak Fujiwara helps deliver tofu for his dad over the years, he unconsciously acquires racing skills. At the same time, the #2 driver of the Red Suns racing team, K.T. Takahashi, accidentally meets Tak and challenges him to a racing battle.
Episode 2: Revenge! The Rumbling Turbo
Team Speed Stars accepts the Red Suns' challenge and the ace of the Speed Stars, Cole, struggles to find the Eight Six that defeated K.T. Takahashi to become a legend of Akina.
Episode 3: The Downhill Specialist Appears
Cole learns about Tak's father, Bunta, and how he's the fastest driver on Mount Akina. Cole injures himself in a car accident, so he asks Bunta to drive for his team against the Red Suns but ...

anything Manga is quality (well...mostly). Ninja Scrolls, Ghost in the Shell, Aeon Flux etc etc.
Inital D is good, i like it but i dont like the "fooly sik" drift mentality that inevitably comes with it.
Go the traditional version....has got to be better than being "tricked out"

Its a pretty good show. I had it about 1 yr ago on my computer(all the series up until stage 3)..not bad.. but subtitles suck when trying to relax
Probably worth it.. even more worth it if u buy the whole series rips off someone for 20 bucks

Who is Takumi's side kick again...the guy with the "85"...i cant remember his name but he's a crack up...i think english dubbing would loose a few of the funnier apects of the show.
In saying that i really dont mind if they want to change the intro music...

yeah...back in the day
How could i forgot all that leather & innuendo
SBS had this MTV freak show thing going for a while that was pretty cool...lots of good 20 min cartoons inc Aeon Flux...another good show was...shit cant remeber the name but there was this monster type guy and a chick who was a social worker...the chick has dreams about the monster guy being her hero and theres these black and white snoopy looking things that the monster guys hacks into all the time (the black ones...white ones are his friends)while saving the chick. He's got a big fark off spike on each hand for stabbing all the snoopy things too. Can anyone remember what its called?
*my brain isnt what it used to be*
very trippy show but fun all the same

*sighs*
Think of all the fooly sik "eight six's" driving around now... i can see it now... next years final battle, a fooly sik club called the "eight six's of bankstown" with their big stereos and huge bodykits...
Then again, looks like just when we thought the initial d phase was wearing off and prices of the 86 were dropping, out comes fast fours to save the day :S Hold on to those se86's boys, looks like we may be able to get a better price. I can see us ripping off some little 15yr old kid who went to the autosalon and saw the 'fully sik' riced up sprintah bro, and wants to buy one. After handing ova 5-6g he walks away with what he thinks is a drift machine when really, its nothing but an aus spec
*sigh again* i could never sell my car to sum1 who doesnt know its capability, or sum1 that thinks they are takumi and can drift it, would probably end up wrapped around a tree that very same day :S

Ahhhh hahhhhaha yes THE MAXX......... that was kool and yes it was Liquid television.....
I love an episode of AEON Flux when the chick met up with that like trench coat wearing bad guy and to pass on a password or something they kissed then it zoomed into their mouths and he or she had flipped the crown of the others tooth up and passed a little rolled up bit of paper with the password into it then closed it back up....... creater of that must have been so off his nutter when thinking about things like that!!

Yes the last 2 eps of NGE were completely crazy, but they were similar to all the rest of the episodes, all a little quirky anyway. Kenshin is awesome, I've got all the eps, all the movies(including the elusive siehouen finale ). If you want good manga watch Kenshin! Watching Kill Bill today reminded me of Kenshin.

Apparently the american dub is very horrible. The dvd's are meant to contain an enhanced and a classic version, but I dont know if that means they have kept the proper car sounds and such.
The "enhanced" version supposedly has them saying "sweet" and "dude" etc alot. Also the car sounds have been chagned to something else. God know's why they would edit out the real 4age sound and such. Also there is no eurobeat, as they couldn't get the license for it. So there is some american rap or sometihng. Also a major bit to the story has been edited out involving the main characters girlfriend.
So I'd suggest do not miss out on the original if you're planning to watch the american release.

I've got the 3 movies, the motion picture, plus the first 2 series. 18 DVDs in all (I think). I've looked at the next series a few times but havn't bought them yet.
The last 5 episodes of the 2nd series was edge-of-your-seat stuff.
I'm going to buy the new Ninja Scroll series too. Have pre-ordered a lot of them.

Sigh ... when will people acknowledge that both Aeon Flux and the MAXX are not anime but rather inspired & drawn anime style? These are US productions! Okay, got that off my hairy chest now ... man, do I miss Liquid Television - who can remember Dog Boy?
Akira and Evangelion are too main stream and Initial D will soon follow this path.
If you really want to see good anime, I'd recommend locally:
1) Samurai X or Rurouni Kenshin
2) FLCL
3) Macross Plus
4) Tenchi Muyo
If you really want to impress people with anime titles not available here in Australia, some of the must-see anime include:
1) Saber Marionette J
2) Last Exile
3) Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory
4) Macross Zero
5) Gunbuster
6) Memories
7) Fushigi Yuugi
Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure
9) Detective Conan
10) His & Her Circumstances
Anyone here seen any of these yet? That's my pick ...

dodgy haro, actually fushigi yugi is available on DVD in australia. my sister owns the collection along with a huge fushigi yugi wall banner.
Yeah samurai X is good........... but if u want something to make u laugh, be sure to see GTO! Hahaha whats more funnier than a paedaphile teacher trying to pik up his female students hahaha!

Dodgy yeah.... I know that it was not true true anime but still very cool........
Dog Boy...... LOL remember his kennel and the hair that everyone had looked like it came out of a tub of Playdoh moulded and sculpted!
I loved Fist of Northern Star or something that sounds similar..... punches the guy in the head it swells up to gargantuan proportions then pops sending blood and grey matter flying everywhere! Very entertaining, though disheartening that I am unable to do likewise
There was a pretty cool anime that I can't remember what it was but it had a... wait for it... Turbo Telstar!
Ninja Scroll was funny....... "Piss off can't you see I'm fucking!"
