1985 - 89 AE82 secas i am sure only came csi and csx

1990 + seca (what code are these?) there were sx twin cams along with csi and csx right

can someone tell me the differences between all them ?

in terms of gear the car came with i,e, disc brakes, a/c power mirrors/windoes etc...

thanks

From what I remember of Rollas of that time:
CS: Base type with black bumpers and the bugger all features
CSi: CS with EFI and a few other goodies (like air I think)
CSX: Body coloured bumpers, mags, etc...
SX is AE92 and AE93 only. Basically a CSX with the 100kW 4A-GE.
The AE82 with the 4A-GE (86kW one) was just called the Twin Cam... I think...

Yes, sadly, I was once in the Corolla camp. Although I can justify it because back then I knew nothing about cars and didn't actually enjoy driving.
It took the ownership of a real car before I could appreciate the joy in drving.

Actually, when I bought my car, I was actually looking for an AE82. I was just in Auburn and saw a cheap Celica in the Trading Post in Auburn. I was there, so I thought it couldn't hurt to look.
I was blown away by the condition of the car and bought it straight away. Smile

Oh how different things might've been if I'd never bothered... Smile

ae93 is the code that the sx was given, be it a hatch or a seca. ae92 is pretty much every other hatch, seca or sedan. There was also an ae94, i think it was the seca RV but i'm not sure & there was also the ae95 that was the 4wd wagon.

go here:
http://www.4age.net/tech/index.htm

It is my guess that ae93 refers to the likes of the sx series 2.
If it's too confusing, just think ae92 whenever you see ae93 - there'll only be a few differences anyway.

go here for sx/gti comparisons:

as for trim levels/features....

# SX, GTi, and RV were the only ones to come with 4 wheel disc brakes.
# RV has the 7a-fe (1.8L)
# Aircon wasn't standard on any model AFAIK. But MANY dealers gave it as a "dealer standard"
# Power windows appeared on some SX and GTi models.
# SX has the best trim, along with CS-X. These have the moulded fibreglass doortrims. the GTi had a lover grade interior trim than the SX.
# GTi was ONLY hatch.
# SX and GTi were only ones with 4a-ge.
# SX and GTi have the full spec dash with oil, volts, tacho meters.
# CSi limited and CS-X have tacho dash i think.
# CS is bogdet. Smile

Thats about all i know... i think. Very Happy

Hope that helps dude.

& i want the lover grade interior from a GTI Wink

the ae93 is every SX model, be it a series one or two, hatch or seca. The GTI is also an ae93.

comparing the two cars - probably not much in it, but i would think the ST162 would juuuust pull away from the AE92.

That said i would still stick with the AE92, much cheaper and easier conversion options available!

From memory the ae93 sx has a better 0 - 100 time by .4 of a second. I have raced a friend who has a st162 and it is quite even, i usually win by a nose up to 60kmph anyway.

would i be correct in assuming if you were wanting to hypothetically build up a beautiful rolla, you could quite easily just buy the cs(straight body, no dents if one can be found) then ugrade brakes, dash and wing, then try and source the front bar, then chuck in whatever egnine whether it be gze or 20v and go from there, redo interior? and besides vin, not be able to tell it was a cs from a gti/sx depending on above mentioned items found.

correct me if im wrong Embarassed

You can but for all the effort its worth just buy a SX/GTi or even an RV.

Mines pretty much has all the sx options bar the rear wing.

Dash
Door trims
Seats
Front bar
Rear discs

yada yada

but from experience your best off buying the SX.

Cool

Is the rear wing on an sx or gti hatch usually black?
or does it correspond to the colour of the body??

All SX hatches came with black rear wings.
All GTi wings are colour coded.

SX and CS-X came with power mirrors and possibly alloys as standard

it just varies i think.

most 89 models have them black, 90+ they are colour coded.
