WANTED: 1983 - 1985 Toyota Sprinter (AE86) Wed, 29 October 2003 08:56 Go to next message
Hey, Im looking for a "1983 - 1985 Toyota Sprinter (AE86)" preferably in Western Australia.

EDIT:
Now, its all about just having a sprinter.

Something alright for around $1000-$2000.

It can be a fully stock Aus Spec Sprinter with a 4AC.

All it has to be is in perth, not thrashed, running well, no major accidents, damage to the body of any kind, rust in some places are exceptable, scratches etc, just nothing major.

Also, I dont want something that has been fully thrashed and needs major work.

Keep your eyes and ears open for me.

Matt

I don't get whats the deal with these people wanting 1985 toyota sprinters ONLY.

It's not like if there are differences such as the japanese zenki and kouki models. (i.e. larger diff, different exterior/interior).

if it's about 1985 being newer and better condition, well let me tell you, sprinters were only available from 1983 to 1985...
2 years difference from the first to the last!!!
And for a 20 y.o car, 2 years makes squat all difference. Trust me, there are just as many shabby 85 models as there are clean 83.

I reckon if you are trying to look for something nice, you should consider the 83-84 models as well. Because realistically, you are narrowing it down a little too much. Especially when there is no significant difference at all.

Hey raise your budget to $8k and you can get one with 4age which is just freshly painted .. white with black bonnet.

I'll be placing my car within this week but it's a 83 model.

cheers,

zenki refers to the earlier model.. 83-85 (very early 85)
kouki refers to the later.. 85-87.

Exterior wise, the levin and truenos had an update..

Zenkis look a lot slicker..
kouki looks more muscly in a modern kind of way.
Takumi has got a zenki trueno. Drift king Tsuxhiya has got a kouki trueno.

The levin zenkis look like aus specs. The levin koukis have that thicker black trimming around the front head lamps.

Each of these models have different tail lights.

interior styling is different. color on a zenki is either red or blue. Kouki is more grey or black. The dash has pinstripes. The chairs got updated too. Same with the door moulds.

The LSD center on a kouki is slightly bigger, meaning it's more heavy duty.
And I know that there is an updated blue top. But I don't know the specifics.

i dunno exactly what zenki and kouki means in japanese. Some have said it means 1st and 2nd. Other say it's early and later. They use these terms accross all jap cars (such as the FC rx7).

rock on.

incorrect info on the diff there.

Koukie Diff's are physically the same size as the Zenkie one. the only thing different is the axle size.

Zenkie has 24mm axles and
Koukie has 25mm axles.

Hardly a huge strength increase. finding Koukie axles is a pain in the arse in australia.

Im hazarding a guess that out of all the ae86's here, 1% of them are koukie's.

kewl.. thanks for that.
Simons explanation was correct, my bad...

By the way.. JDM ae86 are more affordable than you think..

check out home.iprimus.com.au/jverban..

he's got a silver zenki trueno, a white coupe trueno, and a red levin zenki....

But on his website, he never said anything about being good or mint condition Smile

But I have bought stuff off him in the past, and he seems like a nice guy enough

some incorrect info there...

driftae86 wrote on Thu, 30 October 2003 15:33

zenki means early and kouki means later

just hopped on the dictionary, and found some pretty interesting results.

zenki - aforesaid (a-no), above-mentioned, said, above
zenki - first term, first half year, preceding period

kouki - Imperial era
kouki - bad breath, intimation
kouki - brightness, splendour

ah... i see, they must call the kouki ae86's "kouki" because they have bad breath...

the translation i gave is a rough one. if you look at the translation for "zenki" you scraped up you may notice a pattern:
FIRST term, FIRST half year, PRECEDING period, ABOVE mentioned.

i summarised it to mean "early" as no japanese kanji word has one exclusive meaning, but they can usually be related. in this case "zenki" means a few things but they all imply something that comes first.

as for "kouki" there seem to be many meanings unrelated, but when i looked it up, one of the meanings was "final" so i gathered that they call the early ae86's "zenki" because they came first and "kouki" because they came after.

dont just go saying stuff is incorrect without researching it more.

...damn kanji Smile

it's probably a better idea to buy one with a 4age (if you can afford it), and once that goes, either buy another 4age on its own (real cheap), or invest in some better internals (TRD, toda, etc.).

And if your expecting a 4ac to die any time.. don't wait too long, those little corolla engine keep on going and going.
