now by that subject i posted, you might be getting the wrong idea what this is all about. what the "fucking Initial D" subject is about is the DVD that they just released in Auz. i love Initial D and looked long and hard for my entire collection of DVD's and was quite presently suprised as to just how good the series is... BUT... i fear that perhaps it would've been better if they had never released it for commercial sale. HAS ANYONE HEARD THAT STUPID ENGLISH DUB??????!!??
it is an insult to my intelligence!! i don't mind the "dude" and "cool ride bro" remarks, and the highly american sounding honda exhausts sfx they use instead of the original sound effects, and the silly screen effects they use to try and bump up the car race sequences, the more aggressive undertones in the dialogue, but i drew the line at the soundtrack!!!!!
now i'm aware that most people hate eurobeat with a passion, but initial D without it is soulless... the whole feel of the show is out of whack, and the car sequences which had awesome GET UP AND GO HIGH ENERGY music, are now slow and boring thanks to it's heavy - and slow - metal they got going in the background now. now, i wouldn't mind as much as they have the DVD with the optional orig. soundtrack and dialogue, but as i'm sure most people feel, hardly anyone i'm sure could be assed to ever watch anything other than the english vers due to the fact they'd have to read subtitles. the english dub is gonna put initial D into the grave.
i figured that the popularity of initial D would jump as soon as it got out on the market, but now it seems very unlikely. i just hope people see that initial D is NOT another fast and the furious, which the stupid people who dubbed this show approached it as. the show is so much cooler and so much more amazing than that.
just thought i'd vent my frustration and see what you guys all though...

what? americans fcked up a "foreign" film? thats never happened before?
personally im sorta glad that the BIG release does have crappy voice overs, anime freaks will agree with me here (maybeye)
dubs are for noobs, subtitles are the only way to go.

Paid 30 bux for it on wednesday. For up to 3-4 episodes worth.
Its got some Classic/tricked out mode. Skipped through briefly. Hated it. Ejected it. Threw it out. If i ever wasted money. That was it. Well my 2c worth.

The dvd isn't a waste of money, just make sure u watch the jap version with subs. Then you'll see that its a great show.

I've got the Animezone version. 1 episode one file.
Japanese import tv series with removable subtitles. Original soundtrack
Aussie import. 1 disc. I believe all the episodes leading up to keisukes (FD) Race. Classic = Original sound track
Tricked out mode = Rock/grungey music. HORRIBLE!
If anyone is interested in buying teh Aussie version dvd i'll get rid of it for 25 bux. 4.95 cheaper than retail. Only used for 30 seconds  .

i hate the english release...i can already see the ae86 stock being depleated by tards thinking its 'fully sic mate' to buy a sprinter as its a mean drift machine 
yes they can drift but certainly not the best car to do it in if you dont know what your doing....go ruin a silvia ffs

Team Speed Stars accepts the Red Suns' challenge and the ace of the Speed Stars, Cole, struggles to find the Eight Six that defeated K.T. Takahashi to become a legend of Akina.
Episode 3: The Downhill Specialist Appears
Cole learns about Tak's father, Bunta, and how he's the fastest driver on Mount Akina. Cole injures himself in a car accident, so he asks Bunta to drive for his team against the Red Suns but ...

Whats so bad if someone compliments you on your wheels? I'd be kinda flattered and impressed that they even knew what watanabe's are. What worries me is if rice is forced onto the 86's, that would truly make me feel sick (in a bad way sick). I reckon that crap is best left to honduhs because most of those cars have no street cred anyway.

tokyo pop has fucked pretty much any anime its gotten its hands on. From GTO to Samurai Girl they turn it into a maintstream cartoon network cartoon (im not talking adult swim style im talking pokemon style) for kiddies to watch while eating popsycials when they come home from primary school.
Removing Mogi's Pappa destroys 3/4's of the story line in itself, while the american sound track and the lack of smoking on behalf of bunta and keisuke (now affectionally named K.T to please the americanised market) finishs off the job making it possible the worst attempt at americinasation TokyoPop has ever created.
there are two ways u can prevent this happening again. Continue to buy or download fan subbed animes by loyal fans remaining true to the story or write an abusive email to TokyoPop

So the DVD doesn't have the subtitled version on it? That kinda sux. If I was realy into Manga I would go learn Japanise so that I didn't have to watch the subtitled versions. I could just watch the Jap origonals.

Well the tokyo pop version has all options available.
Original video. Original sound. And subtitles. Its good in a way. But i hate how tokyo pop made the most degrading dub of initial D i've seen. I've seen bad/inaccurate subtitling but when it comes to Itsuki saying "HEY COLE! NICE RIDE! WHOAH!"
its a bit too far fetched. Including the replaced soundtrack with hiphop/rnb e.t.c stuff.

i'd love to see a div x rip of the basturdised version just so i can compare. Fansubs are so much better, even if the audio syncing is a bit off they still rule. Its the way the show was meant to be shown

U can buy my copy for 25 bux. As i mentioned only used for 30 seconds. Video/audio syncro is good. Voices and vocab choice definately get my thumbs down.
