Taken off the Club4AG forums but this is a 15min video taken from Option AE86 Special showing Akira's $100,000 build up of his AE86 with a genuine (Initial D) Group A race engine.
I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY RETAINED THE DISTRIBUTOR IN THE FACTORY LOCATION AND KNOCKED / MASSAGED A HOLE IN THE FIREWALL!

FWIW, Initial D ~ 4th Stage (Project D) airs in Japan this coming April ...

What a coincidence! I just bought this video on Saturday at the Auto Salon as all the old ones were going cheap.
I was pretty surprised too at them knocking the hole in the firewall!
Where can you buy one of these engines?
Well, see where all the parts are laid out on the floor before assembly, it shows the price for all the parts, 3 million yen!
That's $36,000.
Woo hooo!

There is some dude OS who sells relocation kits to move the dizzy on the 20V to the front of the engine. Runs off the cam gear I think.

Dump the dizzy altogether and run a crank angle sensor. As Seadog (from these forums) has done. See the tech section.

Yeah but then you have to go for an aftermarket ECU. Which isn't all bad (I have Autronic and love it), but it adds a lot of costs and headaches to the whole thing.

Yes perhaps, but the last time I saw a price on one of the 're-location of the dizzy kits', I thought that you could get an aftermarket computer and set it all up for not much more than the kit price.

I've seen a kit for $200 US, not the most pretty one but sounds functional and reliable.

Oh the pain, and I thought I was dodgy.
Thing that bugs me is that they were running a MoTeC box for the ECU, so there was no reason to bash into the newly painted firewall.
Shows you how "ingenious" the japanese are.
I belive hotstaff is the company in japan that offers the dizzy relocation kit. Like most japanese custom goods, it's quite pricey. But it make it a bolt in job.
