would a small level weight reduction have much of an effect on performance? for instance, would removing the back seat, carpets, door panels, spare tyre and little interior things like that have a significant effect on say, 100m or 1/4 mile times?

in a 1200kg, 200hp car, every 100kg lost is the same as gaining 25hp

edit: at the wheels

don't forget about the affect on braking and turning.

BTW my car has no carpet anywhere, no back seats, no spare tyre, no roof lining, no rear door trims, no padding on pillars etc. you get the point Smile Anyway, it is very loud while driving and i don't recommend it to anyone who does regular long trips. But I love listening to the sound of my 1jz rumble as well as all the bumps in the road Smile

I remember when I had the sub box out of my boot, and stripped it completely (prolly 50 odd kg of weight), I could light up the back tyres in the wet without even trying
With all that stuff in there she took a bit of coaxing, but without it, baaammm, sideways city

not a huge amount Razz

although I will say, taking 50kgs of stuff, + spare + all rear trim pieces made a different to accel... but also lightened the rear end a lot, and reduced handling

depends, of course, on what the weight split of your car is

hehe - or just upgrade your motor to compensate the " weight "

i reckon ive trimmed upto 60kg off the gt4 just in lighter wheels , and pissing off all the cast iron exhaust bits from turbo back ..

the stock cat + stock dumpy + crud midpipe added up to at least 30 KG in unneccessary heavy ballast on the nose

you could always look at fiberglass panels + bumpers too

money spent on weight reduction never gets the same results as money spent on engine/suspension/brake mods.

Even for handeling after you have done all that? I suppose it would in a track car, if you had like... $1,000,000 to spend on it. Very Happy

once you start looking at custom fibreglass panels, recaro seats, etc etc the price is well into the thousands

when my ke70 pvan had the 4k still in it i removed heaps of metal from the back, it basically covered the part of the floorplan where the seats would go in a sedan (thats the best i can describe it) at the time i also removed the interior, passenger seat (mx5 buckets) and subs.... would have been no more than 100- 150kgs all up but man did that little 4k rock and roll!! im talking 3rds in a straight line, and handling like a go-kart! couldnt have weighed more than 700kgs by this point as the area where the windows go had previously been replaced with aluminium panels as well.

moral to the story- the program works if you work it. DONT put all your eggs into one basked. noone wants to drive a 1900kg-300hp fridge when the can drive a 900kg 150hp rocket.
