just wondering what the average idle revs for a sprinter with a 4ac is cos mine was playing up a bit today and i fixed it but not sure if the revs are still abnormal, currently sitting at 1.5 at idle

That idle seems about right. Timing should be @900rpm max 13 deg btdc.
What seems to be the drama.

When you first turn the car on its about about 800rpm on mine but once it warms up it sits around 600rpm. When the aircon is on though sometimes it makes it idle rough until you rev it and it goes back to idling normally again.

when i was tuning my 4AC i went on auto-tech encyclopedia and it had
spark plug gap 0.8mm
timing 3-7(deg) @ 900rpm
points gap 040-0.50
dwell angle 50-54
idle speed man 750 auto 800
valve clearance (hot not running) In 0.20mm Ex 0.30mm
i set mine up to that but advanced the timing a lil till it pinged then backed it off slightly cant remember wat it is but and it runs sweet as...
theres a sequence but
1 point gap
2 timing
3 idle mixture
4 idle speed
set it up in that sequence n u should be ok

i reckon if ur cars running a bit high it might be ur return spring on the throttle, u should give it a look as i had that problem with mine.
My girlfriends got the 4a engine and ive adjusted the timing accurately, it does not ping, and its not too retarted, and when she switches the car off, it keeps running for a sec and makes a screech noise like a belt is slipping. any ideas?
