In another thread i was asked why ive spent $13000+ on my car and still have the 4m a short and blunt answer is because i wanted to, if i was to do a conversion which i will i'll go the whole hog and get a 7m/1j/2j worked of its nanna, anyway.
So i figured lets find out whos poured the most $$ into there car.
heres my list its not exact but you get the idea
$2000 mags & tyres
$1000 bucket seats
$800 stereo
$1000 suspension
$500 exaust
$300 gauges
$200 steering wheel boss kit
$4000 full engine rebuild port polish head manifold 350 holley + extractors
$500 steering box
$100 High presure line from PS to steering box
$100 engine mounts
$200 alternator
$250 starter motor
$300 brake master cylinder
$300 brakes
$150 5 spd
$150 to put it in
$250 K&N air filter + extreme air filter top
$200 battery
$300 tint then 100 to take it off
$250 new carpet + underlay ive ordered
$100 spray paint for under the car
$1300 for drop tank and custom overflow / window wiper bottles (booked in for the 8th feb)
= $14350 (no wonder im broke)
ps. i paid $1600 for the car originally
*this isnt a competition to find out whos pockets are the deepest im just curious as i bet every one else is*
pps. by the way i got a loan for 1/2 that stuff so im in some debt but the other 1/2 i've paid for myself im not rich by any means im on $22000 a year

$200 radiator clean
$350 Mags
$480 tyres
$700 diff

$250 shocks
$600 Auto tranny
$250 Manny Tranny No1
$40 Manny Tranny No2
$350 Manny Tranny No3
$700 Manny conversion
$250 Aircon regassing
$400 new radiator
$350 new headlights/parkers
$400 new bonnet/bumper/grille

nz dollars
1500 initial purchase price for a completely stripped TA23 with no motor/gearbox/driveshaft, completely rooted interior, heaps of nuts and bolts missing and all the panels sitting inside the car
6500 bodywork and paint (still needs finishing)
2500 motor, gearbox and driveshaft (will recoupe some of this when i sell my rolling body that they came out of
50 battery box
100 32mm cabling to run battery to boot
400 set of 15" wheels with no tyres
150 pair of 24mm spacers for front
60 new front discs (peugeot 604's)
70 rt132 front struts
box of beers ae82 front strut inserts
400 series 6 rx7 front seats
200 engineering work on drop tank
swapped some parts for the drop tank
probably sitting around a couple of hundred for wire, connecters, crimps, crimping tool (i'm hiding all the engine bay wiring)
i've saved a lot by farming out some of the work to various friends, like for welding, and acid dipping and stuff, plus i've got a celica mad bastard as a mate who's hooked me up with heaps of parts for free.
and i've still got a lot to go, the seats are the only piece of interior i've got, the dashpad isn't just cracked, its split in half, all the plastic pieces are cracked, i need to import some 71-72 celica taillights, i've got no extractors (and i need customs), no exhaust (and i'm going for twin's so lots of , i need a full set of rubbers (750 or so), i've got a rear windscreen but my front ones got a crack so that needs replacing, and i still need a diff with at least disc brakes and hopefully an lsd.
how do i justify it? style, cause that's what its got. i love this car.

Not going to bother with the shopping list, not that I've been keeping tabs anyway (I don't really want to know). At a guess I'd say I've spent $15k on top of the purchase price of the car ($5k).
It's an expensive hobby, but hey, so is clubbing if you do it every weekend. I know which one is more productive and useful!

That is exactly how I think about it. As I watch my friends go out nearly every night and spends heaps of money on alcohol, then they come home and drive to work in an old shitty stock car. Now I look at my car and know I have made a good choice!

I'm too scared to add it up, but I'll be getting close to the $20K mark soon, I think. I could easily spend another $35K after that - if I had it. Or, a *little* more realisticaly - another $10K.
Which is hugelu overcapitalising on a 20 year old car which I paid $5K for. However, as I keep telling my father in law, it's not just transport - it's my hobby. He spends as much on golf every month and has NOTHING to show for it. It may not be the shrewdest of investments - but at least I've got something to show after my hobby money is spent.

Haha.. amateurs.
Discarding the WRX and the '64 Galaxy (keeping with the Toyota's...)
$24k second-hand mint RAV4, 40k on dial.
$22k+ (and still climbing) on detailed list of modifications, and it will easily go over the $30k mark by the time it's finished.
Why you might ask? Click on the link in my sig and find out. Some would say I'm frickin CRAZY to blow over $50K on a RAV4, and I'd agree with them if it weren't for my continual drive for versatility and originality.
Right now the engine is the killer... I just busted out a $10k loan to fund it all. I shall be a broke-ass for a while.
