you're in nsw
they're completely, 100% illegal
Cops also have radar detector detectors, and if you get caught the will bend you over the bonnet and violate you

why do people like these when so many cop speed detection devices are laser (e.g. optically) based?

Because they also detect laser.
The fine is over $1000 in NSW if you get caught. They also take the device which would have cost you about $700 also...

for the number of times ive actually gone through a radar/speed trap, and the amount in fines it would save..... not worth it in my opinion anyway... even if they were legal.

No Australian delivered cars have radar detectors built in from the factory.

My cousin has one (a truck driver so does heaps of k's and is worth while for him....yeah he cruises at 140-150 in a B-Double and does 9000k's a week...idiot). His one is 100% un-detectable. His is made by a guy who gets the codes from the Police of the radar detector detectors so when ever they change their frequency he gets his updated for a few $'s.
I just want to borrow it for a VERY quick trip to Melbourne. Would be great fun!!

Can someone confirm if a radar detector is legal to "use" in WA?
I'm hearing different things from different people.

Well, let me put it this way
You see 1 in 10 cars in WA with them attached to the windscreen.
And I have never heard of someone getting fined/caught for having one.
On a side note, can anyone even THINK of a reason why these should be illegal? Is it something to do with flashing lights and noises startling the driver?

probably coz it would imply that you want to be aware of radars/etc coz you speed and since speeding is illegal....
silly that they are for sale but you cant use them

They are no use the pigs already have upgrades before yours comes on the market even if it says it is 100% non detectable and I have never seen or heard of one being stock in a car.
Waste of time and money.

It still works out at 50kph, for every hour of the year.
With 2 people, it would be possible, boring as fuck, but possible.
But by your lonesome? doubtful

I suppose if he worked 49 weeks a year, 6 days a week pulling 15 hour days and traveling at an average 91 kph he would do it.
|
Pretty much exactly what my mate does. But he does well over 91kph driving road trains for a mining company in the middle of no where.

Great guy...good looking bloke...wonderful family (no idea how he finds time to have sex to have children ) and lives on the road. Going 3 and 4 days (i think a record of about 6) without sleeping and high as a kite on speed and other things. Wrecking his body for nothing. Such a shame but thats another story.
Just makes you think how many truckies are like him (apparently most of the big timers) and who you are passing on the road. Have to start to wonder when he will wipe out a family on the roads one day.
He drives a 600hp 18 speed automatic truck and rarely has more than 10 tonne on. One trip he said he carted for a fashion show and all the clothes were on coat hangers....4 tonne! Would be faster than most cars.
