Tip: How to fix your motorized antenna Thu, 05 February 2004 02:12
Thought I might share how I got the motorized antenna on my ST162 working again -- I'm sure a lot of owners have this problem.

The main problem is rusting of the metal spindle which spools the nylon tether of the antenna. You can't buy a replacement spindle -- you gotta buy the whole antenna -- very expensive. Well, it clicked to me that the spindle looked a lot like the plastic measuring cup (Tupperware 250ml) that my wife uses for cooking. I just cut-off the handle, a bit of sanding, and whala! Perfect fit! Only problem now is how to attach the nylon tether to the modified spindle. Drill 2 tiny holes on the nylon tether and the spindle, then stitch them together with either a thick nylon fishing line or solid copper wire. Put it all back together -- all done!

I did this 'operation' 5 years ago and it's still working. Err...make sure to tell your wife what happened to her measuring cup.
