Go do TAFE, UNI, WHY, part-time for the next few years.
Night courses and the like.

Why the hell do you need uni qualifications to progress if the people currently doing the job you are after are asking you how to do shit?? That just doesn't make any sense to me. None at all.

What are you kidding? That's not much to be earning without qualifications, especially if he is in the technology industry. Despite what a few people would have you believe, Uni qualifications are not the only ticket to success.

damn right they're not
when i finish my apprenticeship, it wont be hard for me to easily make more than my mates who have spent 3-5 years at uni(except maybe the two who do law...but even then it'll take a while for them to get on any sort of decent money, ie over 50k a year)

My father is just about to start going to uni
he's in the property industry(currently commersial) and hasnt found it hard at all to find someone to pay him 40k a year plus whilst going to uni part time and doing his Bachelor of commerce....so going to uni(especially to further develop your career) doesnt always mean you'll sacrifice all that much in the way of pay, especially if you're willing to take a little longer and do it part time.
in fact i know of 3 other people doing accounting degrees at uni part time and working full time, takes a bit of time management and a few sacrifices...but they manage it quite well
i still say get the travel bug out of you first!

Ahh Shellharbour... now there's a town turning into a city of it's own.
I specialise in networking infrastructure design/implementation. Degree is even specific to this field. The thing that irks me is that I work for a national company, and the pay would be the same no matter where I worked, so staying near home was the obvious choice (nice & cheap).
Hmm, I'll check out MyCareer. Ever since landing the job I haven't really been on the lookout for anything else (the work is good, the pay isn't).

The place i'm currently trying to weasel into accepting me on as an apprentice pays its tradesmen on average about 80-90k a year 
Of course thats with a fair amount of overtime, but still, not bad for some "idiot" fixing "household fridges" with no degree, just a Cert 3 in engineering
*Yes...the narrowmindedness of people when regarding trades sickens me...even when the narrow mindedness comes from tradesmen in other fields*
