Octane booster rulz! Sun, 18 August 2002 02:21 Go to next message
I bought some Nulon octane booster yesterday from suprecheap for $18, and i gotta say it made a big difference in performance of my car! I've never had the car feel that powerful before. I did one of those timed 0-100km'h with stop watch things(LOL-everyone does it sometime or another) and i got 8.2sec twice, with no launch, (as each time it was going out of the tolls on the logan motorway). Previously i usually only get 9-9.5 seconds but the booster really made a difference.
It says it increases up to 7 numbers, and i run optimax, so i would in theory have up to 105RON petrol.
I recommend it to anyone.

Thanks
Ben

If i add 2 bottles do I get 100 kw ??

By my calculations I am only about 40 x $18 = $720 away from giving those yanky top fuelers a run for thier money.

Lucky Igot a 70 L tank!!!

P!SS off! If u don't have anything proper to say then don't say anything. My car was running really crap previous to me putting this stuff in, and all i'm saying is how much smoother and more powerful it made my car, and yes it did make a huge difference! Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

If i had the money that victor bray had put in his motor/s i wouldn't need the booster, and as my motor is, anything that makes the motor go better i praise, so why don't u go spam somewhere esle!!!! :- No No No

Maybe it did something besides boost octane? A lot of these have soem sort of fuel system cleaning agent.

I'd say thats what happened, it may have given the system a bit of a clean out in the process.

No, its far from standard. But the carby's are really holding it back. I've just found a prob with the first carby, i took the leads off each spark plug to see if they each had a similar effect to revs, and found that no. 1 and 2 cylinders is dropping RPM by about 50, but 3 and 4 is dropping by 200RPM.

I've had this problem before with the other carby, and all it was, was a loose screw inside the carby and a bit of gunk. As soon as i cleaned it all out with an air-gun, and tightened the screw up it worked fine. I cleaned and checked both carby's about 1 month ago, so i don't know whether its the same prob again or not, but i'll check again on the weekend.

If not, then i'll put the EFI system in ASAP, and if its still not fixed, then its time to put my worked turbo motor together and drop that in.

Thanks
Ben

I bought some Racing Formula Wynns octane boost for $20 from Kmart for my 4AGE - I'll let you know how it goes.

It only boosts RON by 5 but I got a big bottle which treats 3 tanks so it seemed fairly decent value. How many tanks did your Nulon treat Sbyder?

the nulon treats one tank for $18.
but to be fair, 2 of my friends (in a 180sx and a 300zx) reckoned there was very noticable gains with that stuff in their tanks.
not too sure about 50KW ... but quite good (you'd hope so for $18 a tank)

I think you'll find the bottles state that it will increase "octane number" by UP TO 5 "numbers"... whatever that may be refering to.

I assume they are talking about RON values, if so a magazine tested all these octane boosters and found none that increased RON by more than 1 to 2 points.

even running up to 30 % toluene only yeilded less than 2 point jump.

It is more than likely that the cleaning effect of the additives is doing more than any amount of octane, especially if you have not retuned to take advantage of it.

octane booster also fouls plugs up quick smart =] so instead put some decent fuel in and reap the benefits =]

Yeah:
ELF Atmo rally,
"warning: Use only in engines with comp ratio of more than 11:1, otherwise terminal damage may occur".
Had to say that, As it's written on the warning label.

Leaves a red residue on the plugs that builds up and can substantially reduce the gap to the electrode which inturn reduces power and improper combustion which leads to other things.

A guy I know has a Nissan EXA that cracks (he is a home mechanic that does some crazy things to it) and he said that one night he almost ran the car out of petrol and poured in a few bottles of the octane booster (Nulon) and wound up the boost to some crazy number (22 or something...he runs it at 18 daily) and he said it went really well but not for too long. Would this be true??

Yeah probably, anyone can turn the boost up to rediculous levels on any car. Thing is will it last? Does it detonate at this level? Etc, etc

Also, you will always see small capacity engines running high boost levels. They need to to produce decent hp figures. It like you hear 5L V8's running 7psi on a supercharger but putting out large hp figures.

Other thing i might add,

When you put octane booster in your car you will rarely see an increase in power. People say their car goes so much faster after a bottle. How can it? The computer or dizzy still uses the exact same timing maps. More advance = more power. So when your booting it your computer/dizzy uses same ignition advance maps and so there is no power increase.

Where you might see an increase is when your car is running on closed loop mode for the ignition. Which is when your cruising on the freeway at very light throttle openings. The computer uses knock sensors to increase to optimum timimg.

When you have your foot down you run on pre-determined ignition maps.
