4ac converted to 4age Thu, 04 March 2004 12:00 Go to next message
hi, i have a 4ac sitting here doing nothing, and i was thinking...

i heard early 4ages actually used the same blocks as 4acs, so i was wondering if i could whack a twincam head on my 4ac?

would it be hard? more importantly would it work?

what do i need besides twincam head/computer/manifolding?

thanks for help all! Very Happy

i cant see the real point in doing this, when a head and all the parts for a injection system, will cost just as much as getting a whole engine,

if you want a 4age, just get a whole 4age... computer, loom and all manifolds...

but no harm in wasting money and trying it, i'm not sure if a 4age head will even bolt up to a 4ac block...

I wouldn't bother. By the time you buy all the bits you'll pay for a 4AGE engine over and over plus you should upgrade your brakes as well. Donor cars come up quite often with remodelled front panels where the engine has been upgraded but the brakes havent. You can have my 4AC engine for a spare spare if you want it.
I have recently done a 4AC to 4AGE conversion in an AE82 using a Twincam donor car. Best way to go as everything is there and it's just a matter of swapping engine and associated parts over -including brakes. Just had the motor blue-slipped with no problem as the engine was standard in that model.

thanks guys

only reason i was considering it, was because i was gonna come across most of the parts for next to nothing.

but there would still be some things id have to pay for, plus id have to do all the work to make it worthwhile, so yeh i cbf...

I have done this!
you'll also need the crankshaft pulley to fit the 4A-GE timingbelt. And probably more stuff (can't remember)
Don't forget the distributor!
