MX73 Cressida questions Wed, 24 March 2004 09:09 Go to next message
I'm sorta-kinda-maybe thinking about buying an MX73 for my next project. A few questions for those in the know:

1. Do they have rack-and-pinion steering? I know the MX63 is recirculating ball, not sure about the MX73.

2. Sump position; I'm hoping front sump like the MA61?

3. Rear end; F series IRS?

4. I know people have put 1UZ's in them before... does anyone know where I can see photos of such a contraption? I'm especially interested in seeing clearance around the firewall and brake booster.

5. Does anyone have a rough idea of engine bay dimensions?

That's all I can think of for now. Thanks in advance. Smile

Not that it matters, but I also agree/confirm mrsmart's info Smile

On a side note I was thinking about measuring the rack on an MX73 to see if it will fit an mx62 Confused (don't suppose anyone knows anything about this? In some other countries they did come with a rack....end crazy thought)

(but you know you want to get a pimping MX62 instead Laughing)

Cheers
Wilbo

I measured up an RA65 crossmember and it will almost bolt into an MX62.

Thanks for the info guys. The pics of Cruzsida's engine bay were most useful... looks like an MX73 is just the ticket for the crazy project I have in mind. Wink

Can anyone tell me what MX73's typically go for in reasonable condition?

Wake up Norbie, that threads been going for about 2months now!!

The MX73 is basically EXACTLY the same to the MA61, but 4 door, and a longer wheelbase.

I will be doing a write up on putting the 1uz into the MX73 in the next few weeks. From that it will be piss easy to understand.

And If you wait a month or so, I will prolly be taking the motor out to redo the mounts, and I can take photos/dimensions, or even get a few sets made up.
Make the engine a 'bolt in affair'

Aaaaaaany q's on the MX73, just ask, I know all!!

As for prices, anywhere under $3000 will get you a good goer, but I'm guessing you wont be needing eng/gbox/running etc, so visit some wreckers, sometimes if the car dies, they just give it to a wrecker. I have seen a few untouched ones at wreckers over the last few years.

If you find one with a sunroof, that would be orsm, as they are rarer, but I do beleive they weigh a bit more, up to 100kg more I think.
I will be visiting a weigh station when its next on the road.

There are mounts for the 1jz into the ma61, so they may be similar.

Failing that, i think BigWorm's brother has done the swap.
DO a search for that thread

This is the Box shape, before the MX83? My cuz had a very nice example, Silver, all power option including Sunroof, too bad I was too young to know.

That would be most useful if I was planning a 1UZ swap... I have other shennanigans in mind though. Smile

I'd be very interested to find out how much an MX73 weighs! Hopefully not much more than an MA61.

Another quick question, are MX73's available with a factory LSD option? If so, which model do I need to look out for?
