has anyone here heard of the anime cartoon called 'inital D' it is based on a 1986 treuno. The bloke races lots of other cars like new and old RX7s & honda civics. it's worth a look, there are lots of episodes and 3 full length movies. it's apparently really big in japan, the only problem is that it is in japanese and has english subtitles

Here in Canada you can get Initial D cheap at the movie shops in Chinatown. Make sure you get the english dubbed ones though.
They are usually VCD. The ones that I got had excellent subtitles, The english could not have been better.

Here, you can get Stage 1 and Stage 2 (6 DVDs each) for about $80 each I think. An absolute bargain in my opinion.
There's a few shops that have them. A shop in Chatswood comes to mind.

I saw a 'limited edition' box set of DVD's in Japan. It had a die cast model of the AE86. It was about 50,000 yen.
Unfortunately I did not have my camera with me.

Doode,
I managed to get my hands on the official Japanese Initial D ~ 1st Stage boxed set when it came out 2 years or so ago. No subtitles but I do my own DivX conversions anyway.
It didn't come with a die cast car so perhaps it's the 2nd stage box set you're talking about?
Mine only came with a diecast holder for the 7 DVD's but I did get a bonus Initial D disc showing the making of the series. Not much to rave about except that there was some footage on the Drift King Tsuchiya ... notice the gum tape battle with Shingo's EG6 Civic in the series?
They actually got Tsuchiya strapped up in a modded AE86 & gum taped his hand to the steering wheel. He then proceeded to drift around the race course just to prove that it can be done (as in the series). Just awesome!
Just my 2 cent rant ... cheers!

Initial D ~ Extra Stage is an interim between the end of the 2nd Stage and the movie (3rd stage). It's got nothing to do with Takumi & his AE86 but rather covers Usui's fastest two Mako & ??? chan in their Sil-Eighty Impact Blue.
Not much in the 45min OVA but they do race an Evo from the Emperors.
Cheers!

I would post a pic of my diecast AE86 drifting around the RX7 FC but i don't have any webspace
Plus I have the whole set on DVD except for extra stage and battle stage but I have them on DivX (plus all the other episodes before i got then on dvd)
Initial D is very addictive, I suggest not watching it around exam time for you guys who are still at school or uni.

Yep I love this anime, one of my favourites. This is what really got me into cars and stuff. Got all the episodes on DVD, just the HK bootleg ones from Ebay when they were really cheap. My username is actually the name of the first song from Initial D: Stage 1, episode one when it first starts off, thats where i got my username from.
But yeah ever since I watched it, I am so into cars and sort of like Takumi (except in driving skill where i am way out of his league) in that I was really clueless about cars. But now I'm starting to learn a whole heap of new stuff and my friends are helping me with stuff like that. Like Itsuki says in the movie "My Rival... Is Getting Further & Further Away From Me"
Anyway, from what I know the English dubbed ones are being released at the moment but they're changing all the characters names to more westernised names which is really annoying me! eg.. Takumi->Tak, Itsuki->Iggy, Ryosuke->Ry, Keisuke->K.T.
