BOV on a 1GGTE Wed, 21 April 2004 00:58 Go to next message
I was wondering about options for a blow off valve on my 1ggte. My current idea is to use the standard recirculating valve from a 7mgte. Will this leak or be adequate at around 12psi??

I suppose another option i've heard of is the bosch item which which sounds good but i dont know where to get one from in brisbane.

My other question is, do atmospheric bov's worry the 1ggte as they can do on other air flow metered engines??? Because if anyone can give me advice on this or an example of what they're using plese help us out Thanks

I've heard that the 7M-GTE ones aren't very reliable past 10psi.

My suggestion is a Series II S14 or S15 BOV, they're damn good for the price (2nd hand).

They don't like a venting BOV. A 7M one might do the job, but a new Bosch one is SFA...

Oh, I forgot to add.

Don't vent. Apart from being illegal and freaking ghey, they make you run rich during gear changes.

mine has an atmo BOV, was already on it in my defence hehe.
Well anyway its not really noticable in gear changes but you do really notice it if you just back off then accelerate again, not so good for cornering, even though you shouldn't back off mid corner but there are reasons to Evil or Very Mad

Maybe I'm misguided/confused, but don't the 1G-GTE's have a blow off valve factory? Mounted just in front of the throttle body and recirculated back in...

No, 1G's don't have a factory BOV. 1JZ's do though.

It looks like the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve.

Yup, to add yet another acronym to describe the same thing... ICV (Idle Control Valve).

Hrrmm... having just been thinking about where to locate a BOV when I install one, I apologise for my stupidity in thinking the idle control valve was a BOV as a BOV has to be situated prior to the throttle body to release excess air built up after the throttle closes and the turbos are still pushing air into a dead end... logical really, don't know why I didn't think about this at the time... (Remember to engage brain into 1st gear whenever friends tell you something about car) Smile

Thanks for the tips guys. Yeah I think I'll get a bosch bypass valve and set it up like found at http://www.supras.org.nz/techinfo/phil_strong/ga70 bov.htm.

Any Brissie fellas, where can you get parts like that in the Brisbane area?? eg. Drift King etc.??

I can't speak as a Brissie local, but with something like the Bosch valve, any parts store worth their salt should be able to get one in for you.
