a mate of mine just picked up an 82' celica xx for $1700. I'd never heard of one before, it is a 6 Cylinder 5M-G?? i think. anyone know much about these cars? any good?
I hear that they are basicaly the japanese release of the Celica Supra is that correct?

The are the Japanese Domestic Market version of the Mk2 Supra. The one he has there is a 2.8GT. Basically they have no flares, different front bar, and rear bumper. They have cool tail lights, and usually have some nifty gadgets inside. The 5MGE is much nicer than a 5ME too.

I think it is manual, i havn't actually seen it yet. just been told about it. apparently it has a japanese voice that tells you when you are speeding and to turn your lights off and stuff like that!
what kind of power output does the 5M-GE have?

From memory its something like 130kW. Its not great, but its much nicer than the 103kW 5ME and like to rev much cleaner.
Yeah, thats one of the gadgets, some of them had speed alerts which you can set...

I've never actually heard them in operation, I always assumed they were just a beeper/buzzer sort of thing, because that would have been a lot simpler. They are a nice thing to drive with a manual behind them, the auto saps so much.

I'm pretty sure that it's a japanese voice on the warning things. A member of the mk2 mailing list in new zealand had an xx and I'm sure he was saying that it's a voice, not a warning buzzer. I think it's recorded on something, although I'm not sure what. I'm pretty sure the box for it is in the back of the car somewhere.
There are other engine options, although I'm not sure what years they were available in. There was the m-teu, 2lt turbo I *think* some got the 1g-e motor as well. Although I think the majority got the 5m-ge.

My MA61 has the Jap voice thingo.....i was wondering where i can find out what the crazy bitch is saying??
im getting desoimo pedestedy kesen....or something like that when driving.....i think its a check engine warning....can anyone confirm this speculation??
