I have a ke20 corolla with a 5k engine in it. Now i need to know what they originally came out of, what capacity it is and would a 4k head fit?. Also it has a blown head gasket and need to know if a 4k gasket would do as the spare parts joint here can't find a code for a 5k gasket. Last of all i'm in victoria and want to find out if i can legally get it registered without a engineers report?. Any help would be most appreciated as i want to get it goin and registered A.S.A.P.

yes, but only if head is from a dished piston 4K, otherwise you'll have wayyy too high compression.
no, 4K has 5.5mm smaller bore!!!!!!!! you NEEEEED a 5K HG
i doubt it. KE20 came with 1200CC 3K, 1500CC 5K is... 25% mroe capacity. you SHOULD get it engineered.

Any place that stocks ACL (BR270MT) is the part no. for the gasket.
Roadworthy places in Vic will have no problems with the 5k in a KE20

Can always be a bit nasty and grind the engine number off the 5K, put a 4K one on there, most people would be hard pressed to tell the difference... That said, you should be able to find someone to give you a RWC on the 5K. The guy I get mine from didn't have any issues with the idea of a 4AG in a KE70, so long as I fit a cat converter and unleaded filler neck (WHY! you can't buy leaded fuel here no more - are they worried I might top it up with diesel??)

My roadworthy bloke doesnt have a problem with my 4AG in my KE70 either.
Most are pretty good in vic if it bolts in using factory parts & isnt turbo.
