t50 gearbox problems

after letting someone test-drive my car without me being in it, i've noticed that it won't downshift into 2nd gear without alot of struggling. no crunching, just won't go in unless i shift 1/2 way towards 1st gear, then down.
any ideas on what the problem could be? it was working fine beforehand..

I had a similar problem once before and it turned out the four bolts that hold the shifter to the box had come loose and there were only two holding it in, and they were about to pop out too. If it is that a phillips head screwdriver will sort it, if not, ummmm.....

Funny you should mention this as I have the exact same problem.
It started happening after a lot of thrashing and a BIG mis-shift.
I would like to know if theres any way to fix it?

Im thinking that the 2nd gear syncro is on the way out, someone has been trying to spin wheels/wheels in 2nd gear.
Could also be that 2nd gear syncro is worn/on the way out and if its been driven hard the clutch isnt engaging enough to allow you too shift properly. Hows the freeplay on the clutch pedal.
Just a thought.

if the syncros are worn, wouldn't they crunch? mine doesn't engage at all.

syncro's worn or broken detent spring/clip.
is the box noisy at idle with the clutch out? if so the input bearings are also worn.

theres a very faint whining noise.. but only with the shifter off. i'm guessing thats normal.
detent clip? is that the thing that sits on the thrust bearing?
