are groups A's ment to have the sticker that says 'groups A' in black and yellow writing just behind the doors? i know of 2 genuine red ones that have the sticker there but other colours don't seem to.

Also, the guy that works at my local servo has a red one and he rekons that they only came in red and black??? was there any limit to the colours that they came in cause this one's white Wink

if you look closely - you can see the GROUPA plate in gold - its next to the vin/engine plate. All Group A's if they are genuine have them.

This is the real deal.

The unique auto's one has most definately had a respray...
You will find the following decals on an original Group A:
-Group A Rallye stickers behind doors just above protector strip
-Group A Rallye sticker just above the RHS tail lights
-Water to air intercooler sticker just above the scoop
-4WD Turbo stickers on the protection strip at the front of the doors
and probably some more but I forget...

I believe that its either a genuine Group A or a VERY good fake... But it would cost more to fake a group A so why would you bother?

it has all the group A bits
-W/A IC
-ABS brakes
-build number sticker
-shorter shifter
-gold sparkly first owner plaque
-cd player
-front bar
-bonnet scoop
-no foglight switch on top right hand side of instrument cluster (where the alarm LED is now)... standard gtfours had this switch

just doesn't have stickers.

Mine doesnt have foglights Wink But it did get the group A diff and turbo from the factory ..

They came out in more shades then red and black , theres heaps of white ones and ive seen blue and grey ones as well

Re building a fake - i can pretty much vouch for this - seeing mine will be the closest you could " build " to a group A and i know its cost me more than 17K including the purchase of the car - but on the other hand it also is more grunty and handles better than a Stock Group A also ..

best way to check is to look for that first owners plate , theres one in the engine bay and one inside as far as i know Smile

Actually not all Group A's have the plate...

All of the lower numbered ones I've seen do and Toyota customer service say it is because most of the lower numbered ones were pre-ordered... the ones without the plates were usually in dealerships somewhere on the showroom floor.

From what Toyota say the first 50 or so were pre-ordered months in advance.

Toyota also have a VIN registry for those wanting to verify if their car is a fake... but as I said above if you check all the appropriate bits then the car is either real or the person who faked it is an idiot.

Remember Toyota had to sell the group A at the same price as the standard gt four for homogolation(spelling?) purposes

Very nice car, i think it would be pointless trying to sell a normaly 185 as a group a, it would be too expensive.
