I'm not sure, really..
When i put a 1ggte in my cressida, i needed a mid-sump for it to fit, but i couldn't find one. I had to cut and weld, yes it is possible. Just be careful of the oil pick-up, but trust me, it is possible.

Out of all the 1G-GTEs, I've only ever seen Gen 1 (water-to-air) versions have the front sump. If you get a Gen 3, you should be sweet.
FWIW, 1G-GEs and (I think some) 1G-GZEs have front sumps.

Thanks Darkstar and Nark,
This helps the search for sure. Any idea on which GZE's had front sumps? I might have to look at sump and oil pick-up swaps if we can't find the right combination.
Cheers,
Mitch.

Mitch, if you can get away with using the front sump at all, then do so!
It's a far superiour design.

nark that really has to be arguable.
surely toyota would not go backwards in there design.
There are also plenty of big HP 1Gs still running fine on the rear sump..
Mind you I have a front sump now.

I'd suggest this scenario:
Toyota created an engine. Then wanted to put it into the xA70 Supra and found that the sump wouldn't fit.
So they put a bit of money and a bit of research into creating a mid-rear sump.
I don't know. I've seen both types and the front sump has much better internal baffling.

Gen3 soarers are front sump.
AFAIK all supra 1G's were mid sump, definitly the Gen3's
The front winged sump has a better windage tray than the mid sump setup and larger sump volume. You have to remember that the 1G was the economy option for the cars it was manufactured in. I don't think toyota really expected to need a high performance sump in a 1G supra.
