Supra (ma70) with 1jz, 5-spd (R154) in SA SOLD!!!
|
Mon, 08 March 2004 00:22
|
|
Am buying a house and getting a company car so have to sell my baby.
It's a 1987 ma70 Supra that we put a 2.5lt twin turbo 1jz-gte engine in about 2 years ago. Engine and gearbox came from a jza-70 manual front cut.
For those in SA it has been Regency approved and comes with certificate etc. The conversion looks incredibly neat and tidy, as though it was factory fitted. Engine is unmodified and runs stock boost, stock air-filter etc. Dyno-ed with 152 rwKw at 9psi (running some crazily rich A/F ratios) on stock computer but now has a Blitz Access modifed computer.
Featues:
Blitz Access ECU - no boost or speed cut and slightly more agressive tuning.
4.3:1 LSD
R154 manual gearbox
Cruise control
Air-con
2.5 inch exhaust (very quiet)
TEMS suspension with new struts.
HKS Blow-off
Strut brace
Autometer boost gauge
EBC Green Stuff brake pads.
3 months rego
The body colour is metallic blue (rare Supra colour) and could use a little tidying up. From the outside it looks like stock ma70 so it is a bit of a sleeper. Surprisingly quick, especially with the manual gearbox. Grey interior, analogue (dial) dash.
The engine is unmodifed, and the car would make a great base for further modification (single turbo and the like). Plus, being Australian delivered I found it much easier to get insurance and so on.
MUST SELL THIS WEEK. Price is NOW $10,700 - that is an absolute farking bargin. I am getting married in 2 weeks and cannot have this car in my driveway after I'm married . I know how much it costs to do this conversion properly (esp with manual gearbox) and it's not cheap.
Must sell soon - company car arriving shortly (on Friday!!!).
Photo's and lots more details available, please email caelum.brice(at)wattyl.com.au or call me (Caelum) on 0417 067 640.

The LSD is 4.3:1, which means its an N/A differential. So the car was originally an N/A?
The turbo's differential was a 3.6 or 3.7:1 ratio, being a much taller diff.
From my memory the 4.1 is a little short and has you changing out of first and 2nd so quick it a major flurry of activity. Not such an economical cruiser either.
Still very good cars and a great idea to get away from the 7M engine. I personally experienced 4 BHG's with those engines.

Its not a flame. The point of the forums is to share information publically and honestly. There is no dramas that it has the short diff or it was originally an N/A.
I had a MA70 N/A with much the same conversion. Some people liked the short diff, personally I didn't like it.
Also, to douse any fire !! I agree with you, the blue colour in the MKiii Supra is very nice, possibly the nicest colour they made them in. I had a burgundy one, which may be the 2nd best colour.

Yep, it was a N/A, manual ma70 (All australian delivered ma70's were naturally aspirated, the turbo's were ma71's). The 4.3:1 diff is good for driving in the hills (where I used to live) as you can keep it in 3rd for tight corners rather than downshifting. Highway cruising does tend to be a bit thirsty, with 5th gear sitting at just below 3,000 rpm at 100kph. If you were doing a lot of highway cruises and long journeys you may want to change the diff ratio.

Lumpy, Interesting fact is that the car now being a turbo is actually likely to be more economical on a trip, even with the same diff ration, ie the 4.3:1.
My N/A to 7MGTE with the 4.3:1 was more economical than the N/A engine with the same ratio - on a trip. When I went to the taller turbo ratio diff (3.626:1?, it was much more economical.

Bumpitty Bump Bump.
And yes, the 1jz does give better cruise mileage than the clapped out 7M-GE! For some reason the 7m's tend to run as rich as f**k.

Lets bump again...like we did last summer!
Also, whilst car is actively for sale, for those without immediate cash I will consider holding it for a month or two for the happy purchaser to get their ass into gear finance wise.
I currently pay only $700 insurance a year for this - Full comprehensive from Just Cars with all mods listed. Ahh it's fun being rating 1 and over 25! Being Australian delivered makes it a lot easier too.....

No engineering required as this model of Supra came out with this engine in Japan - however full inspection of the car, checking engine number, brake test, checking fuel filler restriction (for unleaded), exhaust noise level etc. Had to use all the original totyota airfilter, air intake, exhaust, cat convertor. Plus we had to keep the Australian charcoal canister setup. Also had to supply an emissions test for CO2 and unburnt hydrocarbons.

This is exactly what i'm looking for just its come too soon, caught up in an old loan and won't get the money quick enough that and the fact i'll have to have a loan just for my insurance, that is a VERY nice ride and i would LOVE to take it off your hands.
don't suppose you want to trade a 82 929 coupe (cosmo shape and interior) for it

having lost your license, been done speeding many a time and haveing a car crash worth $70,000 odd dollars while your 19 makes ANY insurance a stack load.
i've had a few bites at new jobs which may make it possible to get a loan but it will take more than a month, i ssssoooo want to buy this.
PS 929 is dead needs a new head and carby (someone got screwed)

Luckily, I've only ever been caught speeding once, never had an accident and never made a claim. (touch wood).

was thinking of a ST185 GT4, but this one has turned my head. That has got to be a potent machine allright. What date does the rego run out? If you would consider something closer to the $10K mark, all things going well, i should have that sort of cash by about late may, early june. Would that be too late for you?
PS no offence meant by the $10K inquiry, i work at woollies

Les - you can drive from Adel - Syd in two easy days. Or with this car (since it has no speed cut), one day.
Hey Danish! Yep it's brand spanking BA XT Falcon (bottom of the range ) , with cruise and few other options. I picked it up from the dealer with 7km's on the clock and have driven 300k's over the weekend. I don't have to pay rego, insurance, petrol, repairs, servicing or anything - and it is completely free (ie. not a novated lease or salary sacrificed). You could say I'm pretty damn happy

So many joyriders looking at the car lately! Frustrating - there appears to be a large group of people with nothing to do on a Sat afternoon but look at cars without actually wanting to buy them!!

Of course you can put a digidash in it - it's just a matter of how good your wiring skills are, and how dedicated you are to the digi dash ideal.
The current analogue dash is a hybrid of the ma70 and jza70 to run the 7000rpm redline tacho of the jza with the same needle as the rest of the ma70 dash. Just shows how much mixing and matching can be done if you have the time and patience.

The 7m gte is a great engine, if u get it fixed right the first time you shouldn't have a problem later..
for those who can't afford to convert to a 1jz or even a 2jz.. the 7m is a great engine.. i seen close to 1000 hp out of these engines, BHG's go coz of a factory mishap with the torque of the head, to low, tighten it around 75-80 ibs and it will be fine.
That car of yours is a credit to u, great work.. thats a ideal car at a ideal price!
go Supra!

Lumpy,
Hang in there mate. Dont get dissalusioned by the tyre kickers that come and look at the Mk 3's. Good ones are hard to sell as most people want a chepie, and wont even come and look untill you have posted shitloads of photos and dropped your price by thousands of $$$...... These people are not going to buy anyway.
Hang out for the genuine buyers that are out there, that will pay the right dolars for the right car so they can enjoy their purchase rather than continually work on it and spend $$ after the purchase.
It has just taken me 4 months to sell my Mk3 (well i actually sold it 3 times in that period - its just that 2 of the purchasers were tyre kickers that hadent organised finance and insurance before going to look at cars) and it has gone to a fellow Toymodder who i know will love it and look after it as i have. After speaking to him ,he said he has looked at plenty of Mk3's for sale but in his words, Everything available out there at the moment from $8k to $15k is a shitbox..............
My point here being is that the genuine buyers are the ones that actually go to the effort to see whats available from the CHEAP SHIT, to the OVERPRICED EXAMPLES, to make a well informed purchase decision, NOT the keyboard warriors that want to know how negotiable you are or how low you will go. It is not untill they come out and look at your car that they can trully understand what your car is worth.
I know i am babling on here but im just trying to say that the right buyer will come along, so dont get dissalusioned and desperate in the mean time.
Cheers.

For the lucky buyer I'll also chuck in all the bits'n'pieces that I've got left over from the front cut - Bilstein's, swaybars, etc.

2 months rego
The body colour is metallic blue (rare Supra colour) and could use a little tidying up. From the outside it looks like stock ma70 so it is a bit of a sleeper. Surprisingly quick, especially with the manual gearbox. Grey interior, analogue (dial) dash.
The engine is unmodifed, and the car would make a great base for further modification (single turbo and the like). Plus, being Australian delivered I found it much easier to get insurance and so on.
MUST SELL THIS WEEK. Price is now $10,700 . I know how much it costs to do this conversion properly (esp with manual gearbox) and it's not cheap.
