BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Screw F1 - too boring Mad Go MotoGP where there is actual racing!!! (and Rossi isn't a quarter of the nob that Schumacher is) Smile

Williams have dropped the ball this year so far...and everyone in the paddock *knows* that Toyota will be a major team soon enough (come on, look at their budget, it would be unrealistic to expect higher from them right now but give them a couple of years and they'll be at the pointy end for sure) however, Ralfie Schumacher sucks nutsicles - constantly outclassed by his team-mate Montoya and clearly a waste of money. There are better test drivers lying around the place, and better drivers in the Euro F3000 championship. Ralf couldn't develop a car if his life depended on it.

Toyota are dropping both their drivers I think?

look at what webers doen for jaguar though

thats a Fking ordinary car, and he stilll manages to get up the pointy end , mainly cause hes a star of a driver ..

Montoya's a good one but hes off to mclaren isnt he ?

that leaves two seats at Williams , which has a budget equal to ferrari ..

bets are , Weber for one seat , if hes not picked up by renault

Takuma Sato isn't too bad a driver either Smile

Weber is undoubtedly a quick driver, and he's qualified well so far this year, but in the race he hasn't really shown alot of pace. He's good, but he won't be able to turn the Williams into a Ferrari beater.

My bets are on BAR taking the challenge to Ferrari over the next year or two, with Toyota joining in the fight eventually.

for webber to put the jag 2nd on the grid with a car that was averaging lap speeds something like 10kms slower than schumacher just shows how good a driver he is when hes got a car thats set up well. if his car had more reliabilty he would definately be one of the major players.

Putting a car 2nd on the grid isn't as big a feat as it used to be, the new rules make sure of that.

I base it purely off of race pace, and he has always gone backwards regardless of the condition of his car. When I see him fight his way through and pass some traffic, then I will give kudos to him. As it stands, he is impressive, he is quick, but he hasn't shown everything that is required of a good driver just yet! I'm under-rating him a bit I know Confused

Sato is a maniac. Have you watched in-car footage of him?! He's a phsychopath with no value for his life! Shocked

It would be good to get a decent driver in a Toyota. Ralfie ain't that bad. It's just that there's too much expectation of him (considering his brother).

ralf is a good driver, he just looses the plot sometimes

speaking of f1, anyone see the proposed rule changes?

http://www.formula1.com/race/news/1456/717.html

run down:

- 2.4 litre V8s w/four valves per cylinder, would have to be used for two races not one.
- control ECU (no more traction control)
- manual operation of both clutch and gearbox would be mandatory.
- standardised areodynamic package (closer racing)

ooh baby, once these come in, if they do, it wont be so much formation driving like it is now Very Happy

Re: F1 Mon, 17 May 2004 10:07 Go to previous messageGo to next message
i personally cant see those changes ever taking place, especially standardised aerodynamics and manual clutch/gear control. i think a good idea to slow the cars down a bit would be to have one tyre for all conditions. ie same tyre for wet and dry. this would also be good for tyre development on road cars.
the one engine per weekend rule is a good one, however the penalties for changing engines should be a little different, i mean say your already halfway down the grid due to problems, you may aswell put in a better but more fragile engine and go to the back of the pack and have a better engine for the race.
its a sad fact that the days of trully amazing racing are gone. those of us who remember to the battles between Senna and Prost know EXACTLY what im talking about.

I'm not a fan of over controlled racing. F1 is supposed to be about the fastest cars on the planet, the only rules should be governed by safety.

Standard aero packages? I mean what the F#$% is that about, where is the incentive for a company to innovate, innovation breeds success. Anyone who thinks that F1 should be purely about the driver is kidding themselves.

Go back in the history of F1 and it is all about innovation, from the time Sir Jack built his own car and won, to todays modern techniques, wind tunnels etc. If it was standarised we would never see that evolution, that would be a shame.

I agree. They shouldn't standardise the aero kits, it's a big part of what they can do. What they should do is make some stricter guidelines that limit the ultimate amounts they can play with, its probably just as much of a challenge working around the guidlines. They really do need to ditch the traction control though...

Traction control was very hard to ban. They found that in over a million lines of assembly code the 4 lines which relate to traction control are near impossible to find. Many of the better teams implememnted traction control as a simple misfire, which in many cases appeared to be a software bug, so it was almost impossible to determine it was happening.

Banning it means not that it will disappear, but only the teams that can afford the top software engineers (who are willing to cheat(ethical question: if it is cheating, but makes it safer for the driver what are the ethical implications?))

I 1000% agree, I don't like seeing ferrari win all the time, but rather than cutting down the tall poppy, maybe we should encourage the other teams to lift their game.

If i watch F1 I want to see the fatest cars possible.

I think some of the elitist rules should be dropped - ferrari get double the pit space as minardi, based on last years results.

its all poilitics... its funny how some teams will be invited to demonstration events, like how williams were invited to do a demonstration at bahrain, giving them a DISTICNT advantage over the other teams as they had the opertunity to gain test data before anyone else Rolling Eyes

lifting game = more money

this is why they are trying to keep costs down, so that the not-so big budget teams have a chance

although i have heard that since the introduction of the single engine rule, which made things cheaper for other teams, the big teams like ferrari have just been spending the same amount, just in other places. they aparently now have a mobile labratory or something that they can test all kinds of things such as engine oil, engine wear, to accomadate the single engine. so i guess if they are trying to keep costs down, its not really working.

personally, i do not care too much for technical adavncement, even when it comes to my own car. it is definatley a good thing, but should not control the sport. i just want it fast enough to be a little competitive, and then i want to enjoy driving it hard on the race track for as long as possible. i think all the motorsport technology should definatley be second in line to the true nature of motorsport, which is in my opinion is the competition and the pursuit of getting fastest times with the machinery you are given.

I can see your point...but in my opinion I think F1 is about getting around the track in the shortest possible time, irrespective of machinery.

There are plenty of other control type races, watch one of those if you are interested in close racing (dihatsu cup??), but leave F1 as the fastest cars possible.

I also believe that control tyres are wrong, part of motorsport should be the selection of correct equipment. Could you imagine the outcry if they said all cricketers have to use the same bat to remove the differences, all footy players had to wear the same type of boot?? Equiptment selection is part of sport.

I think that part of motorsport include the development of machinery.

I think the V8's are also loosing track - they now have a standard suspension package, they are killing off all the things make the ford vs holden thing great by standarising everthing.

i do indeed prefer to watch these, like the chapcars which even have a control engine.

the number one reason almost all teams in f1 is beacuse of advertising. this was even the primary reason for toyota starting in f1. i accept this fact, and to keep the advertising profitable, people need to watch it. if the racing becomes stale and boring, people will not watch it, profits will deminish, and the sport will be no more. i want these changes mainly cause i love close racing, but also so the sport will be there in the future.

Schumacher is such a tool...he would've easily won the race had he not been dicking around in the tunnel...I think the blame for his 'incident' lies 50% in his hands as much as everyone wants to crucify Montoya.

Thank god he didn't beat another record, I'm bored to death of Schumacher winning! He's still going to win the championship this year, just too good for everyone else.

Of only Montoya had some balls still and/or a decent car under him.

How effing stupid were the marshalls though?! Anyone see those dumbarses?

Those were the worst marshalls ever. From standing inches from the racing line on a hairpin after a crash, to literally dropping a yellow flag while trying to wave it in front of Sato's engine loss/smoke barrier. I was suprised none of them got run over!
