MKIII vs XR6 Turbo Tue, 18 May 2004 02:15 Go to next message
Well I had a go at one of these the other night. Wasnt expecting too much really, but was pleasantly surprised. If I could cut down on the wheel spin in 1st then I would have one. By the end of first I was about 3/4 of a car length behind. Not good. I thought it was all over, but by the end of second (my strongest gear) I was level with the front of his front wheels. By the end of third and halfway through fourth we didnt budge. So I was happy even though I lost. Very Happy More than I expected.

Not at all. Just metal HG, 500hp fuel pump and cat back exhaust. So not too bad. Boosted to 10psi

low 14's is pretty quick for a 1700kg family car. And they have a SHITLOAD of low down torque so they pull off the line very well.

how do I know? my GF's parents own two of them Smile nice cars!

14.14 driveway quiet emissions friendly from motor, that is fucking seriously fast, with the aps piggy back chip, more boost and exhaust and cooler, one did 307km/ph and 11.28 400m, of course its a ford, but dont say they ONLY do low 14's remebers porsches, evos etc only do flat 13's, so..........very fast for a big sofa

Yeah, my cousin has one, and it is seriously fast. And who cares that it's a tiptronic. You put it in auto and plant the foot and it accelerates, no letting up to change gears or anything. That is what really impressed me. It was just constant power, no dropping out of turbo when gears changed or anything. I was like, wow, that's impressive. And that is without the big exhaust. I read a stat that said they were 13.5 standard.

if you get a chance to test drive onoe do so ..

they are REALLY REALLY nice to drive ..

took one for a spin , was allowed to give it a boot and there si NO lag in the turbo whatsoever - just full on dig down grunt ..

it made a mockery of the xr8 that i drove after that - more noise - a shade more wheelspin but the XR^ turbo felt a hell of a lot more stronger ..

They are in the 10's now too with a few of the cars coming from workshops ....

Said it befoire and ill STRESS it again - Dont underestimate an xr6 turbo JUST because they are a falcon ..

You should kick it's arse unless it has a micely modified 7M or a boosted 1j/stock 2j. Traction, even with your LSD, will be a problem though. Aren't the Soarers around 12-1400 Kg?

To be quite honest I think you'll be amazed with how the soarer+1j with go, even at stock boost.

I think the XR6T is really the new "hero" car for ford. So nice to sit in, look the goods, plenty of power available - and easier/cheaper to mod than a V8. I wonder if they'll have the longevity of the jap turbo motors though.... only time will tell.

my car weighs on the very low end of 1200.. so like 1220 or somehting
ill take it to weigh bridge and get it weighed when i get it back...
as for mods.. all its gonna have for a few months is pod, 600x300x76 cooler, 2.5 inch exhaust from dumps back with no cat and be boosted up a bit...
i know traction will be an issue but i guess ill see how i go next week
...might get some vids goin of it

I'd have to agree there. The XR6T I drove was very easy to drive quickly without even trying. Managed to kill a modded R32 with out raising a sweat... Smile

I think Ford were saying that during testing they were pumping more boost through the XR6 engines (around 16 pounds) and found them to handle it reasonably well.

And the coppers have a bit more boost too? Supposedly...

Looking forward to it!

Should get all the quick cars from QLD Toymods out at once for a drag day. But I guess that will never happen as someone is always fixing something Razz
