hey all, jus a quick question , i have seen around on many sites including this one that the ST185 group A has fuel maps to like 18 psi ???? so my question is are the internals the same for the stock ST185 as the Group A?
cause i wish to turn up sum boost on my 3SGTE and didnt wanna blow anything?
any help would be super !!

yup same internals
the group A being the ST185 cant say if u can find out if this is a gen 3 motor then the internals are all the same, bascil wit the mr2's ever 94 + is a gen 3 motor all have the mapping to 18 psi as do all of the st205, so if someone can confirm that the st185 falls in the gen 3 catagory you have your answer.
Also i know on the gen 2 3sgte the interals are still very very strong, i can almost garentee that it will not blow so long as the motor is serviced and looked after, there are not signs of large amounts of wear etc... And you have good cooling(very important), if you have the above 18 psi all day everyday.

st185 grp A and standard are the same , its just intercooling ECU and AFM that vary as far as i know ..
the only problems with high boost on a standard motor is the chance youi may blow the Headgasket , or stretch headstuds ..
Upgrade your headstuds/gasket for long term fun if you plan only to run 18psi and YES the cooler to can get the motor - the better ..
Ie more airflow to radiator , better underbonnet venting etc ..

ok whats the calculation for psi again, i know i run up to 9 psi on my ST185 engine(well thats what is says on the boost gauge). I would like to increase this to about 15psi for wen i want to drag it, but i will need to get the ct20b or somethink like this to do so.

A ct26 will handle 14-15PSI without any problems draza - thats what mine runs on high boost ( when its not in current limp mode )with the standard ecu. Anything above this and the stock air to air setup begins to become inefficient.
im guessing you have a boost controller in ? If not thats your first step , if your using an st185 ECU to control your motor - the mapping is there
Secondly maybe look at the 13v fuel pump mod so it doesnt stagger with fuel starve too until you can upgrade your ECU/fuelpump/injectors etc to cope with moter power .
maybe water injection too?

the gen 3 engine is oct 93 onwards. the crank is different steel to earlier ones. they seem less prone to cracking, but none of them survive high boost for long. all of the highly boosted 3SG we dismantle have cracked cranks. we make steel main caps and stiffners to help reduce this. the gen 2 and 3 turbo rods are identical.
