Starting Problem ST-162 Mon, 24 May 2004 03:20 Go to next message
Hi guys just having a problem when starting my car

when I turn the key and the engine starts to turn over, if the engine light on the dash goes out the car will just crank without firing and will do it for as long as u want if this happens I have to turn the ignition to off then try again. But if the engine light stays on when the car is turned over it will start without missing a beat. A guy i work with said his car does the same with his 20v 4age. Does anybody know what the problem is?

We are thinking it might be the crank angle sensor
are these expesive to replace?

Cheers Josh

Check for an engine error code...
First you may want to check for spark though.

Does the ST162 actually have a CAS? I've never looked (always meant to) but it doesn't seem like it does.

Does your car have an alarm and immobiliser fitted?

I had a problem similar to this, took it to an auto electrician, he said the alarm could be draining the power away, he fitted a crank relay and I haven't had a problem with it since, it costed about $60
