cannons are good if u have a turbo, but just wacking one on the end of a N/A exaust makes it sound crap and u won't get a power increase from them. I have a 4" cannon on the end of my 3" exaust, and yes i have the turbo. I still have to do another upgrade of my exaust to get the full power gain that i will get from it, hiflow cat.

Remember that not all things that look nice are good for u.

When ever i see a N/A car with a large exaust i laugh, it just doesn't have the air flow for it.

Yeah me too, especially a hyundia excel, fuck i have to pull at times, or even the ones that are angled to the side at a 45 or more degree angle even though they don't have IRS. Funny what people think up sometimes. Laughing

IMO i reckon the huge cannon mufflers look silly and attract too much attention from the cops. i think 4th gens look good with the twin tips. this is what my muffler looks like: http://www.shoboken.net/rdm/aust162/crusbak.jpg

i've been pulled over a total of 5 times since getting the cannon muffler and 3 of those time was by set up RBT's, the other 2 were because of a small wheel spin while my new clutch was wearing in. I wasn't booked on any occasion.

I used to have Robs tip, but got rid of that to him, now I just have a Straight single 2.5" black painted tip, except that was staring to rust so i went to superchaep and got a 2.5" crome tip to go over it, looks very suttle, especially now since the chrome is dirty. but the rest of my zorst system is just painted black with a standard looking muffler.

don't get me wrong thou, some cannons look the goods on the rite car. eg. gtst's,gtr, evo, wrx and 200sx are a must Wink. but when they tend to be on older cars, or small buzz boxes *cough* *korean* (like sillycar88 said),im not a fan. if i didn't hav my muffler on i would put a dump tip on and or followed by a smallish cannon(3"tip)

I was taking 2 mates for a ride, when i got back 2 other mates wanted a go, i said no as i had a bad feeling about it, 2 mins later a cop car came flying out of the area that i was driving in, full sirens.

Well i have extractors and no POD, panel filter all the way. I ended up gettin my twin tip fixed - i had to take to the inside of it with a die grinder to make the split smoothe so it didnt bounce around. Its heaps better now and it also got a better note.

Rob me?

dude, I don't have a high-flow cat.. its my next mod Smile BUT, I am sure it will not negatively affect you at all. I too have extractors and am looking to just finish the system.

Cat's are not a "back pressure" thing as much as a "blockage in the pipe" kinda thing Smile Some people take the cores out of them Wink

cool, yeah i be out prob friday night and sat night in geelong for once since i did the susp, maybe even monday. should org a meet up with doobs and sr twin cam and ur mates and ours. give us atleast 6 st162's.

me and my mate both have st162 with cannons and large www.v-opt.co.jp stickers for our support of drift in japan and aus. so just do a lap or so and u will see us prob tailgateing each other.

atm i htink i not sure wat brands etc but my front suspension was shot and thats why i had so much body roll so i am getting all new front struts and shocks, backs r fine atm. and peddars springs. well i talked to the guy about kings springs (cause i was gonna buy them soon) and other brands (eibach r sweet but harder to get and more$$) but they r a specialist susp/steering joint and since my car was already apart and he had the springs and recommended them at a good price installed (not like preddars - so dear) with wheel alignment etc to adjust camber i just thought might as well.

Hi everyone,
Nice to see a dedicated thread on the ST162, and excellent to see a few more of them being modified. Well, I too own a celica (ST162) and thought I might start by listing stuff I've done to it:
its white (not whitelightning version)
17x7 wheels with 215/40zr17 toyo's
monroe shocks + king springs
dba rotors + ebc pads - rear slotted
exhaust technology exhaust - 2.5" mandrel, hiflowcat, JunBL muff
xtreem button clutch
rebuilt engine with mild head work and adjustable cam-gears
clarion cd + eclipse speakers
sparco steerer
front&rear whilteline sway bars
stock front strut + ase custom made rear strut

I only just got it rebuilt so its getting run-in, havent done any dyno's yet so I cant give you any figures on power. Its a cool little car and I'll see if I can get a photo of it here. If you live in Adelaide and see it cruising 'round, stop me and say hi!!! Wink
Looking forward to reading this column! hehe

measuring my car it is been lowered round 2 inches after springs settle. so it is nice and low,

but also increasingly difficult to drive

how bad r the state of some roads? didnt realise this b4 until i got my new shocks.

I'm gonna have to say that no-one really knows what the state of roads are until they sit and/or drive a sports car. Manholes are the devil, and cat-eyes are their pets. haha, the things we put up with just to have a fast car.
Cams and cam gears don't do much good for everyday driving. my car has since lost a majority of its power down low but has definately picked up at higher revs. Fuel consumption has gone through the roof as a result and idle now sits at about 950rpm with an idling note somewhat a mixture of a 5.0L Holden V8, and a WRX.

Does aftermarket cam gears affect the idling of your car(st162)?? does anyone have a estimate of how a bog stock st162 should idle?? because mines idling at about 900rpms, and yeah fuel consumption is very poor.

Man i think that looks the shit!!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Cause i want particly like that but not the tips like yours, i want dual tips 3in like a BMW M3 cause i love that dual pipe with dual tip look and the eruo look is not done heaps in australia like it would be done in europe, lol. but got told that the 2nd pipe would not get any like exhaust what so ever, and be just for looks, so i'm still diciding, but i don't want the cannon (sick of it and cops look at u more), was just thinking dual 3in stright tips but i want dual pipes!!!! maybe just wait longer and pay the money for it!!!!!

jonchai - welcome btw Smile I too live in Adelaide, but I doubt you've ever seen my POS as it's been off the road due to my extreme laziness 90% of the time.

What brand adjustable cam gears did you get and how much they set you back?

Maybe we'll meet up at the next toymods cruise in SA (provided aforementioned POS is returned to its glory by the lazy-arse owner).

Hi everyone,
I think there might have been some confusion about my cams. They are standard cams but have been worked on, ie timing and perhaps a little machining. I am not 100% sure what my mechanic had done with it coz he too also made the cam gears. that's right....he made them. (He is a very competent mechanic). The engine blew on the RPM Dyno and so I passed him the car with a shredded main bearing, blown piston 4, cracked crank and bent exhaust cam. he wasnt happy with the timing he was getting from the stock gears so he proceeded to make some. the reason aftermarket cams were not fitted was because of the standard computer and no-one knows how to re-time the factory ignition. A MOTEC (what he deals with) would have been a +$3500 on top of the already extravagent price.
Factory idle should be set at 750rpm, cams effect idle and overall timing because of the increased time between valves closing and opening. Hence, if left at factory 750rpm, the car would be running very close to stalling.
FWDboy, is that ur celica sideways in ur stamp sized photo? haha, mine could never go offroad!!! u'll see what i mean when photos come one, the local rallying club asked me to join their rally meets out in the farm, but I declined coz of the car, I've been more inclined to make it a track car than a rally beast.

Yeah that's me and my car in a rare moment of action Smile I think a more representative shot of my car can be found in the member's rides section (it's up on ramps). Dirt road driving is great, but god it's nasty.

Your car blew on the dyno did it? Damn, messy Sad That's one thing I'm scared of in regards to dyno and dyno tuning...any idea why it blew?

hey man the celica may be stepping aside as the daily driver, but it is still the occasions car. she'll be the one graceing all the major events and cruises. Smile

this just gives me more flexability to work the baby and stroke her gently until she realises her full potential.

Yeha man you do that. Laughing Rolling Eyes then blame the guy next to you Razz

hey guys theres sumthing wrong with the electrics in my car.its either the voltage regulator or the alternator itself. here are the symptoms: yesterday.came up to the traffic lights, had my headlights, spotties, stereo, heater on 2 and indicators on.
= my dashlights dim and voltage went low on guage.i revved the car and it went brighter, then it stopped.lasted for about 15 seconds.

today: driving home at nite, everything on the same as yesterday, except the heater.going around a corner slowly.
= dash goes really, really bright and voltage guage shows all the way to 18volts!two warning lights come on.the pic of the battery and the car showing when a (rear light globe is gone Confused ).
i pulled over, turned the car off.

checked belt.ok, checked all plugs, wires around alternator and cleaned the plugs.put it back together and not a problem.

Any suggestions?? sory about the long post Razz
