Okay, so this is about as 'low-brow' tech question as the come, but I'm going to swallow my pride and ask it anyway...

Is it just me or do most post-1985 cars have standardised mountings for a CD head unit? So I shouldn't have to pull out anything more hardcore than a screwdriver if I wanted to put a CD player into a 1990 lancer for example? (no it's not my car, but who am I to judge).

There is a standardized space for sound systems for cars, known as DIN - or double DIN, for a unit to fit into....if this is what you mean ?
Mitch.

Yep - so it's a standard fitting then and I'll just need to screw the head unit in (and obviously wire it up as well).

basically...

what car are we talking about? Almost ALL toyotas, post ~1987 have what i like to call the "toyota mount system", which involes either a double DIN braket, or single DIN bracket that is standard across pretty much ALL of their cars.

I KNOW the ST18* celicas and AE92 rollas have this system, as do all Hilux's, SV21 camry's etc etc

.. btw - i used to install car radios for crust.
