i know there are alot of articles about the w series gearbox's but i was under my corona 22RE today and on the bell housing it has 21R marked on it. would anyone be able to tell me if they have the same thing on their corona. i wasn't sure if this gear box came with the car. I would also like to know if all the w series gearboxes have the holes in the same place so i could swap between a W55 to a W58
The bellhousing is stamped to indicate what motor it bolts too, in your case an R series, not the gearbox. W55,57 and 58 g/box's are interchangeable, however some have the clutch throw out fork on the opposite side, depending upon model. In the Corona Avante 22RE the g/box was the W58, IIRC. The original transmission type might be stamped on your build plate on the firewall....check it out.
