hmm ok a few things...you say you have a 1.8i (is the 'i' meant to stand for injected?), RA60's are meant to come with a "21RC", which is a 4 cylinder, 2 Liter, 12 valve SOHC. (edit: dammit its a 21rc not a 20 lol)

Anyway you refer to installing an "air intake chip but obviously cant install it coz theres no CPU/ATI ", if its an injected motor it will have an ECU....hell I don't even know what you have, is it the stock motor or not?!

Anyway in reference to the "1G", the 1G-GTE is a 2L, 24 valve twin cam, twin trubo motor, which is a very nice upgrade for a RA60 (do a search if you want to know more about the 1G Cool ) Smile

Cheers
Wilbo

if you're looking at a "chip it" budget, then you wont be able to afford the engine conversion.
It's an old carby, so no you cant chip it.
You could always put some big carbies on it, exhaust, but you're really polishing a turb - the 21r-c doesn't have much potential via the usual simple mods.. certainly not for the money you'd be paying

you'd be amazed what a decent exhaust system can do . . . for around $1250 you can suck another 20Kw of of the car. nice new race cam and roller rockers would be nice . . . about $800 for those and you'd be supprised just how much of a differect platinum spark plugs can even do to the cars performance.

notice the T at the end of that engine code? know why they can get another 28kw?

are roller rockers even available for a 21RC?

"platinum" spark plugs compared to 'normal' spark plugs that are doing there job? the difference is in the price, not the performance.... especially for the old truck motor Wink

and what is your definition of 'race cam'? (@50 thou, and lift?)

The most cost effective thing you could do with the 21R-C is probably swap in a hotter camshaft. I have done it with good results. I've just got a stage 1 trd copy (or equiv 272). After that I'd definately get extractors and larger exhaust system. You wont need a cat thanks to 1982/83 emissions laws Smile. Then depending if you are after more power, consider changing the carb to either a bigger downdraft, some nice 40mm sidedrafts, or just go straight to EFI. Take a look on eBay for 22r Wink.

EDIT:

Not that I know of, you would have to go custom.

Heh, I wish it had 12 valves. Its more like 8 Sad.

Also I forgot to add, check out www.lcengineering.com for performance parts. These guys specialise in 20/22R's. The 21R is a small bore version of the early 22R motor. In Australia we go the later 22R motor (in efi version) but it used the analog efi which is poo.

A good exhaust system with extractors will get you a few more HP, but any more than that is a big waste of money on a 21R-C. Either save up for an engine conversion or a better car; in the meantime just accept that your car is slow!

If you're lookign at LCengineering.... from Australia.. I think an engine conversion would make a lot more sense.

Actually, the analog EFI is a lot more mod-friendly.

The problem with the analog efi is that its really crude. There is no fuel maps what so ever, just logic circuits. Easiest way to tell what u have is wether u have an o2 sensor. Analog EFI has no o2 feedback, so no leaning on cruising Sad

Not saying that I like the standard TCCS efi from toyota either, i prefer the programmable type personally.

You r right about it being crude but i find it user friendly.very little required 4 engine swapping (even number of cylinders) no need to work out if it requires a P+ or P- for a circuit to work, and "generally can be fixed by the side of the road." The "standard EFI" can be altered for timing (spark and injection) with the use of a piggy-back unit (different dizzy fitted)
I've got to admit that digital can give substantial gains in drive ability but after being "buzzed" once i'll stick to the old analogue (pre 86)
