Ah yes! Hip-hop head!!!
I have main passion for NYC/QB stuff.
I liked I Am too.... The new one is different, they say it is due to his mother dying, I kinda like it too.
Have you head all the stuf fthatw as supposed to be released as I am but was overbootlegged? The Lost Tapes?

Anyways. what about Mobb Deep, I loved Infamous and Hell On Earth! Dark shit!

Biz Markie? How old are you? haha
Whos Rabo Rawk?

What u think bout A Tribe Called Quest?
Afu Ra?

(I like R&B but seperate, but I hate Selwyn!)
Ma$e is a pastor now, forget him lol.

I really hate that aussie hip-hop group that has blown up! Forget what they called, and kinda glad!!!!!!!!

I like Xzibit's flow but he has become overused material with the hookup with Dre.

Jurrassic 5 as a novelty? Mehh I like em, though they dont do street stuff.
Love the Roots too.
Outkast old shit was madd, new stuff makes my balls itch a lil.

My positive novelty vote goes to Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park. I think his flow on the Xecutioners cut was a gem.... Has a kool jap soundin last name too haha.

DJ green Lantern definatly HOT... not to many people know of this stuff and it is awesome.

i have recently discovered kottenmouth kings... slightly different hip hop some of it isnt to crash hot but they have a couple songs that i would definatly rate.

biggie!!!!

insane clown posse... although not many people like them i would put them almost on the top of my hot list

i agree with truenosedan on the week list except usher has some good stuff and hilltop hood's are pretty good for some homegrown

Hell yes. I dig the Demigodz. Most Boston Hip Hop is solid. 7L & Esoteric drop the bomb. Mr. Lif, Apathy, Celph Titled.

Jeru The Damaja, KRS are all good.

I also like Foriegn Legion, Some battleaxe dudes, and brits Phi life cypher.

Most Aussie Hiphop rocks, besides a minority of sellouts...hilltop hoods, downsyde, koolism. After Hours, Funkoars, and LC are still good in my books. The Hoods earlier shit was real good, but it seems that all the stuff they used to be against they have become. Seems to be the same for Dilated peoples too. They used to be against fame and money and comercialisation, and the other day I saw them on video hits!

Hip hop rocks!

J5 deserves way more than just a freakin' novelty vote. Just because they aren't angry rappers doesn't make them crap.

And you forgot TZU... a Melbourne Hip Hop crew. In my mind the best Australian Hip Hop that I have heard. (Some Aussie stuff is pure bogan shite)

Hilltop Hoods are not that bad either too. Lay off them.

I think Hilltop Hoods have changed their approach towards HipHop to try to target a wider market. Too many people know about them that have no aprecaition for true hiphop. The other day I was chatting to some girl on ICQ who likes 'hip hop' and she listed all of her favourite rappers including eminem, 50 cent and hilltop hoods? She obviously considered the hoods to be the same kind of hiphop as these other wakers. Much to comerciallised!

As for dialated they still rock, kinda like J5,
novelty vote, they are very commercial, but still good, i never said they had to be angry, i respect their harmonius style, their DJ's cut chemist and newmark make them HOT, i saw their show, 2 nd best ive EVER been to!

TZU, about the last aussie act i can still listen to, although i wouldnt say i 'like' them

delta is to superior to be considered aussie Laughing

yeah been a long time dilated fan, i dont see what you have against hilltop hoods tho, especially seeing as your an adelaide boy too, just cos someone old likes it dosent mean its bad...... i guess ive been listening to their stuff since before they were on the radio. at least they rap about stuff i can relate to, instead of pumping niggas full of lead with a shotty, which i dont have much experience in.

Dilated are still fat, but I don't like their direction. Expansion Team and The platform were the fattest albums, I dont like Neighbourhood watch tho. Evidence is the fattest!

Eso's def jux diss is rad...'You aint different, you just can't work your equipment' hehe Eso has some tite disses. Celph is my least favourite demigod, he has done some wak shit with some wak rappers (imho). Acrobatik rocks.

I aint herd of Necro or Ill Bill?

I don't like hip hop that I can't really relate to. I hate gangsta rap.

quote of dan smith ( pressure ) "if we dont make ne money off this album, were quittin" W E A K

quote at hilltops concert ( I was not there ) :this time it was matt lambert - getting the crowd to chant "fuck delta"

then matt lambert ( suffa ) tried to talk to us at bros stone and said "hip hop these days" when he saw some 40 year old women walking in, i was about to say, u r the reason why 40 y.o. women like this u fool!!! i was soo mad

plus both of them posting up shit about delta on the msg boards ozhiphop msg boards that is, W E A K

OH yeh lol, 'raise them beers, we been doin this for more than 10 years' hahahaha suffa was rocking slayer shirts not all that long ago hahahahahah

and for these reasons and SOOOOO many others they can eat dick!

'pumpin niggas with lead' this is raw hip hop, this REAL hip hop, i cant relate to it either but, it owns aussie

Oh by the way "u aint made a hit yet, ud flop in a split sec, in the shower is the only time u get your dick wet" Big L

man, real hiphop isn't gangsta bullshit. Hiphop went bad as soon as people made it 'hardcore'.

After seen Hilltop hoods live, i'd say they are pretty damn good compared to every other nobo wog that was trying to rap on the night.

Because more people like it now, does that mean its now worse? Oh you wanted to be the cool rebal guy that likes something that noone else does *boo hoo*.

Cant say im a fan of of presure or suffer in their old stuff... its all pretty boring.

Hrm, i have a documentry somewhere around here that i got a while back of mid - late 80s hip hop. Pretty damn interesting stuff. Ill divx it and then upload it sometime this week.

*edit, oh and i do agree, the whole giving delta shit is pretty damn weak.

hiphop is the goods.i like both aussie and seppo hiphop but obviously find i can relate to aussie shit much better.some of the stuff that im into includes:
downsyde,delta,blis n eso,hyjack and torcha,tzu,butterfingers, jurassic5,beatnuts,the roots,pharoahe monch,talib kweli,mosdef
and more that i cant think of right now.hilltop hoods are fuckin good in my opinion, although its killing me its being played on mainstream radio.im not interested in the bullshit or politics that goes along with music(of any sort),im into it purely for the love of music,if i like something and it goes mainstream or its 'not cool' i dont stop liking it.im not of the oldskool (and not pretending to be) but not exactly new to aussie hip hop and i know what i do and dont like...and l like.support the local guys!

i like the local flavour

2 dogs(dj katch), shin ki row, butterfingers, ksino, blunted stylus, brothers stoney, quro, reference point, downsyde, hilltop hoods, mc tash, mass mc, bias b, lazy grey, porn theatre ushers...the list goes on...most of the above groups contain 1 or more members from other said groups which is neat

of the american stuff i'd have to say mos def, mob deep, nwa, eminem, krs one, dr dre/snoop/ice cube are decent

i dont listen to b105 or video hits so im not up to date with the crap out there but anything r&b like chingy or usher...50c, p diddy suck teh cock

you wanna see aussie hip hop sellouts check out resin dogs "hi 5 from the volcanic lab" and listen to their present day shit. Downsyde released the "Epinonimous" album back in 2000 and were bascially unheared of until about a year or two ago...goes to show talent isnt picked up until a catchy song gets radio play and all of a sudden everyone loves them (catchy=money for big wigs)...i cant see how you can call them sellouts. Both HH & Koolism have started to cater more so to the mainstream but i wont say they've sold out until they start touring USA Razz

Fair enuf, I definitely agree that the resin dogs are sellouts, they have done some tours with like pure r&b wakers, and their music is so far from hiphop imo. Hilltop hoods are fukn mad mcs, dont get me wrong, but what they rap about today is so not what they were about 2 years ago. There attitudes have shifted from the underground soul, to money, fame, and credit. Not to say that if a group does get airplay, they are instantly wak, but if their focus is not on hiphop and its spirit, but is on commercial things then they're selling out to the 'mainstream' rappers values such as 50 cent, eminem ect. who don't portray the true hiphop that KRS One outlined. I grew up in the same suburb as the hilltop hoods, and have listened to them since their first album, and been to some of their shows, and I really think their focus has changed.

I saw downsyde last year at some Christmas/New Years show on TV, doing a track infront of like 1000s of young kids and parents, it was just not hiphop in my opinion. I really dont think aussie rappers will ever tour the USA in a mainstream tour, they'd probably get capped Laughing .

But anyways thats my 2cs, anyone elses opinions?

Wu Tang Killah Beez!!

36 Chambers is the definitive hip hop album. Method Man stands above the rest with a unique style though.

And yeah, i agree, Rappers Delight has got to be the anthem for Hip Hop. Nearly every line was stolen from that song. Got the 16 minute version here, effn lovely.

I stopped listening to hip hop and rap after about 1998. All fake club bitches prancing around after that.

Best Rap and Hip Hop list? (In no particular order)

1. Tupac. Just cannot beat his style and lyrics, though many have tried. New stuff does not compare (recurring theme here)
2. Wu Tang - 36 Chambers. Wu Tang Clan aint nuttin to f*ck with!
3. OG Snoop. (Pre Doggfather, which basically means one album and a few collaborative songs)
4. Biggie. Ready to Die and Life After Death were cool, mixing Rap with some other elements.
5. Twinz. Warren G's proteges, kickin ass with LB style tunes.
6. Dogg Pound. Daz has more flavour than any of the new groups all by himself. AND he produces..
7. Dr Dre. Ok, hes done some weird ass shit, but his beats and his style is still impeccable (Old School that is, note my pre 1997 stuff up top)
8. Bone Thugs - East 1999. How come no group can rap this fast and with this much flair?? They lost the plot after the Art of War though.
9. NWA. St8 Outta Compton! Nuff said.
10. Naughty by Nature. Treach is just slick. He still has his style today, not something anyone else can say.

Special Mention:
1. Lost Boyz. Mr Cheeks is smoooth
2. Redman. Ruff and Ragged, opposite to Mr Cheeks.
3. THUG Life. I wonder why they stopped after one album?
4. Warren G. (Bit soft, but hey, hes got style)
5. Ice Cube. To G or Not to G..

Sorry, dont know any locals. From what ive heard of them, id prefer to just chuck on an old CD instead.

To quote 2pac.. "F*CK hanging with the phonies in the club!" is my motto concerning rap/hip hop/whatever.

Anyone who thinks that gangsta shit is hip hop, your a dickhead.

My 2c

a lot of raw - real hip hop came from QB, - queensbridge, a predominately negro area with high crime, u HAD to be gansta to survive, a lot of them rapped, rapping is an element of hip hop, so there for it is hip hop, not 'gangsta shit" so dont diss "gangsta rap" u fool, u r miss informed - if you call ditc, biggie, gangstarr gangsta rap then u dont like hip hop....., i do like all 3 of your favourite songs, tho

i would call gangsta rap, dre, snoop ( soft now ), ice cube, easy e ( even tho he was a poofter ) etc, i dont like ne of those dudes, but still better than some

and for those who dont like him including myself 50-cent is gangsta hes been shot etc....his music is funny at best....

then there is boston hip hop, which i also love, richer area, less crime, higher education, more wit, skills etc, totally different, everywhere u go the hip hop is different, it is all hip hop dont call someone a dickhead for liking good music

also bliss and esso should be on my wack list, hip hop has no room for accents or biters.......

Personaly I'm into alot of underground US shit, but everyone has their old favorites from when they 1st started, Aussie is starting to get alot of air now, but it was pretty underground in the early 90s, I myself have been writing rymes for years, specializing in beat-boxing, I'm an 'ol HIP HOP kat from wayyyyy back representing all 4 elements.
Anyway here are just a few artists i dig, some you will know, maybe some you won't, also some nice DJs.

*Arsonists (definately one of the freshest groups from NY)
*Non-Phixion (same as above)
*Necro (Affiliated with Non-Phixion at times)
*Cage
*Gangstarr (fuck yeah)
*Jedi Mind Tricks (original as fuck)
*Afu-Ra (smooth easy going)
*A Tribe Called Quest
*Souls Of Mischief
*Phoaroh Monch ("Simon Says" definately)
*Notorious BIG
*Kool Keith
*Big L
*Wu Tang (who cannot love these guys, even if you wear a nylon jacket from the VIC market)
*Prince Paul
*Kid Koala (played in Melb not long ago)
*DJ Shadow
*Handsome Boy Modelling School
*Dan The Automator

Geez, this list could go on and on for ages, but yeah I absolute love the shit, I love the whole scene. I just hope no one will go straight to Kazaa and download this shit and go back to their friends and tell them how HIP HOP they are. Mad

Arsonists, Jedi Mind Tricks, Souls Of Mischief and Kool Keith are some of my faves as well Smile . Souls of Mischief have very smooth cali style. Was Dan The Automator, Kool Keith's DJ whilst he was Dr. Octagon? Kool Keith's shit rocks. He is so crazy lol.

Def. agreed. Ripping of artists' music, is not cool, and is no way supporting it. Claimin you do if you download all your hip hop, is plain hypocracy!

Nah, Kool Keith made all his own beats while he was Dr Octagon, heres somethin you might of heard
"I didn't work so hard, so you could fucken download it"
*People Under The Stairs

But I have to be honest, I've had to download some shit, because either it's way too hard to get down here, or its only one song that i like from a whole album, but needless to say my CD collection is HUGE, if only i could afford to start to collect 45s, that would be the shit.

The track i quoted was from O.S.T (Original Soundtrack)
I'm pretty certain he did all his own beats, they're completly different from Dan .... style, much more like Kool Keith's, tripped out like fuck, in fact i have that album, it's always in the CD player next to my bed, I'm sort of over it, so i don't listen to it that much (cant fall asleep to music ???, well not KK)

Funny Story: I had a chick in my bed one night, and i decided to put some music on but KK was the only CD in there, so off it went, me and this chick got down and dirty, but when i was ummmmmm how do i put this, touching the good bits i spose, anyway the fuckin gynocholigist song comes on, you know where the nurse is feeling this chick up and diagnosing her and there's some MAD,MAD arse scratching. Anyway I punched the CD player and turned it off. I had to stop after that it was way too funny i couldnt stop laughing, but she didnt get it. Hmmmmm I wonder why? Rolling Eyes
