duz the cat converter work as a spark arrestor?

didn't realize wen i got a straight thru muffler that it might put out sparks
and i off road in brush at times
duz the cat suppress this possibility?
even the 2 1/2" magnaflow cat caused a little power loss on my 22re according to the seat of my pants
it felt a little like there wuz a potato in the pipe
till i put on the straight thru muff
1 mm oversize valves, engnbldr cam (mild efi), downey header and 2 1/2" to 2 1/4" xhaust
