Cam & crank seals Mon, 21 June 2004 01:33 Go to next message
The timing belt in my 7A-FE needs replacing, and I'm not sure if I should fork out for cam & crank seals at the same time. Can these be replaced (cheaply) when they start leaking later, or is it best to get them replaced now? The engine has done just over 100,000kms. I'm a uni student, and more money now means less petrol money in coming weeks Sad

dude if you buy a manual and follow the steps closely you cannot go wrong

it will cost you about $130 + oil to do yourself + manual

a workshop.. uh.. $400++????

The mechanic I usually go to said $200 to replace the belt, then more for the seals if they need doing (I did my own 100K service). I was just wondering if I'm shooting myself in the foot by not replacing the seals too.

(BTW, I'm about as mechanically inclined as a pair of woolen socks Embarassed )

wow that is a pretty good price

yes, do the seals, if they start leaking, then it will chew up your timing belt and you will just have to do it all again in like 70 thou not 100

Cam seals are like $10
Front Main seal like $6
Rear Mani are like $19-20

These prices qouted were 4age, similar to 7a

Dont forget you have to pull the box off to do the rear main. I would just do the front main and the cam seals, when the belt gets done. Worry about the rear main when it leaks
