For the people running a large port head with the AE86 Intake Manifold.

How many of you run the Cold Start Injector or Use the Intake Air Temp sensor?

For those running GZE blocks

Do you use the factory knock sensor at all?

As mine runs on LPG, I can't use the CSI, but I use a Delco air temp sensor in the intake pipe, and Haltech IG5 doesn't have an input for a knock sensor... I'd suggest you use a temp sensor, forget the CSI and knock sensor, tune it properly and it should be fine anyways. After all, what really is the use of a CSI if you work out the cranking/cold running fuel map properly?

Does anyone know if the 3S-GTE has a cold start injector?

every EFI car runs a cold start injector.

Other plug is thermotime injector switch. When car is cranking power is fed to it, and if the temp is cold enough, it will send power to CSI. Apparently runs for 7 seconds or so on 2TGEU. But i reckon more like just the time it takes to start the motor.

However, if you just set up your fuel map so that below 500rpm or so it runs hell rich, then you wouldn't need to use a CSI.

karl, not every car runs a cold start injector. most toyotas do i know that much.

some cars have fuel maps programmed for cold start enrichment - so that when things are cold they run rich as buggery until things warm up a little..

temperature enrichment coefficient..... Actually built into all Toyota ECUs. Enriches standard map and extra enrichment on throttle..... as you say........ really really really rich.

Well, All Toyotas that I've seen have CSI.

Most newer versions of engines fitted to new models after about 1992 do without the cold start injector.
There are exceptions though.

I am currently building a 4A-GTE based on a 4th gen 4A-GZE (map, coil pack, hich comp)

I am using RWD manifold, and will be using Haltech E6K

Statts: Did you empty my garage, or are you doing exactly the same as me! Very Happy

I also have a late high comp 4AGZE, Haltech E6K & RWD intake manifold.

Have you made up an exhaust manifold already? I'm about to get started...

Cheers

BTW: Why would toyota tune their EFI cars to run super rich when cold??? What could possibly benefit from that? Do you think that they might rather be compensating for the fact that the fuel mixture tends to 'stick' to the cold walls of the intake manifold & ports, therefore resulting in a lean mixture unless they compensate with a cold start injector? Throttle pump values also need to be increased with a cold motor.
