need help!!! Thu, 24 June 2004 08:17 Go to next message
Hi guys

Was driving home just now and suddenly the battery charge sign came on. what could be wrong with it? Crying or Very Sad after a while noticed that idling was at 1300rpm instead of 900rpm normally.
Its a ae86 with a 4ac in it. thinking it might be a problem with the alternator. Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks

Stick a volt meter ground and the back of the alternator. Sometimes if its not putting out enough voltage/current it can affect the way the motor runs.

your alternator is probably not charging. since it's not charging, it's not slowing the motor down the way it usually does.

probably just the brushes, possible something else (field diodes, regulator, stator/rotor)

pull it out and have a look...
