ae86 : diff clunking in the rain Wed, 30 June 2004 02:05 Go to next message
hey,
I have an ae86, w/ F-series hilux diff, new custom tailshaft, std gb, every now and then upon initial acceleration and when i back off sometimes there is something making a clunk, but this only happens when the roads are wet. strange i thought, ive checked the mounts and they all seem to be tight, and im hoping it isnt the diff saying, i'm fucked, does anyone have any ideas?any possibilities would be helpful thanks.

You might inspect your half shafts and see if they have been assembled properly. Its possible to crush a bearing and your trailing arm bushes might be worn. Good luck.

i have jdm 86 with lsd. i also get a loud clunking/grinding noise when accelerating hard and also turning fast left. mine seems to come from around the rear left wheel. does this sound like your problem? i'm going to check all of my bushes and monuts this weekend. i'll let u know if i find the problem.
maybe it's different to yours, but could be the same thing!?

half shafts? excuse my lack of terminology knowledge
ill do a good check off the rear end this weekend aswell i think, and see what i can find.
why would it only happen when things are wet?
i was thinking maybe something to do with panhard rod was causing the problem, being a non std diff. but i have no idea in reality.
cheers
