Thanks for your PM RiGo, email sent

Any way a grey import is a car that is 15+ years old so it doesnt need to officially be complied. in my state it only needs things like:

- a new petrol filler cap ( for unleaded only)
- child restraint harnesses in the rear
- rear selt belts replaced with a retractable sort
- side intrusion bars in front doors
- side mirrors replaced with flat glass

all pretty simple and if you can get ya hands on the right people the work can be done quite cheaply. and as the cars dont need a compliance plate to be bought, the cost of the car comes right down. a good page that explains it all and has a nice stock list is www.yahoomotorsport.com

so any way i was looking for an older saorer, anything from '86 to '88 with a manual box and a 1GGTE or 7MGTE engine.
also i have looked at things like old mazda familias, toyota chasers, series 4 RX7s and all sorts. i would like a car for road use, not motorsport.

so if any one can help it would be appreciated

Theres nothing dodgey about importing a 15 year old car.

Places to try

www.prestigemotorsport.com.au
www.kobecars.com

-If your going to get a soarer, I recommend you get a 3 litre single turbo version.
- Familia's are good but have glass gearboxes (design fault) To my knowledge you can replace them with a modified toyota GT4 gearbox (indestructable) but that is like 3-6grand.
- Rx7 would be an excellent choice as they still hold their value well. Excellent bang for your buck.
---
89 cars to look out for this year would be
- MX5 Roadster
- Toyota Celsior (Also known as Lexus LS400 here - pimpin mobile - Dare I say, I really like what I have seen in Japan, these cars get dressed up nicely)
- Toyota Crown (like last year)
- Toyota Supra 3litre(the upspec Jap ones)
- R32 Skylines GTsT, GTR
- 180SX (warning ca18 models only, SR20's were in the models 91 onwards from memory)
- 300zx (heavy arse crap)

Well hope that helps.

Prestige Motorsport is the place to go.

I can also help you as well -- See 1989 Supra in For Sale section, currently in Japan.

I stumbled across this dealer...budget prices, and cars already here! Also with links for Yahoo Auctions Japan.

John Verban (YahooMotorSport) seems alright. A mate was thinking of buying a CRX of him, and John was upfront and honest about what needed to be fixed and the condition of the car.

Another one, that has been getting good reviews on another forum and has nice prices is
www.jdmboyz.com

Or alternatively you "could" purchase a nice complianced Jap import 1994 RVR with mods!! (AKA mine!)

alternatively you can do it yourself. It takes around 3 months.
Its a lot easier than it sounds.

Find a trusty Jap exporter on the web, speak with dotars and speak with a your local customs agency. they will explain everything. Be sure to request heaps of pictures from the exporter

DO NOT PAY SOMEONE TO DO IT ITS EASY

i brought my AW11 GZE over myself and it arrived on a truck christmas eve 2003!!! what a present!!!

YOU WILL SAVE THOUSANDS!!!!!
