V160/V161 6 Speed gearbox info req'd Tue, 06 July 2004 01:08 Go to next message
Hiya all,

Through work, I can get hold of the new 6 speed gearbox from Aisin Shocked , and whilst it is not the same as the Toyota one used behined the JZA80 Supra's, I'm hoping that it is similar enough that it is an alternative .

Can somebody tell me if the bellhousing is removable (a la W5* boxes) ?

If the bellhousing is seprable, are they available to suit a 7M engine or is it a custom jobbie ? Or can a 2JZ one be butchered to fit ?

Anyone got sone more detailed pics of the bellhousing to gearbox bolt pattern ?

I have got the ratios from Norbs, but need some othetr general info, and anything will help.

I'm off to get some drawings and ratios from our server to see what I can find Cool

Cheers

From Aisin?? It's not the 6speed for the IS200 is it??

The Supra 6speed is a Getrag.

No. The bellhousing is part of the casing.

Can be butchered to fit. But it's easier to put a 2JZ in. Very Happy

Oh bugger. Cheers for that info Wastegate, I have to do some more searching.

The gearbox that I am after details on is the Aisin, but not the IS200 one, it is a GM usage product, and is also known as D173 for the local, or D171 for the US market.

I'm trying to have a perve at one here to get some more info on it.

Cheers

Michael B

PS As for putting in a 2JZ rather than butcher the gearbox, I'll stick with the gearbox, as I don't hav ethe time, patience or money for that matter to do both Sad

The only cars the V160 (and it's sisters) are used in are the JZA80 Supra, R34 GTR..

Here is the product chart.

The box I'm looking at (still trying to get a dwg) has the following ratio's ;

GM D173......................Toyota V160

1st......4.475 : 1................3.827 : 1
2nd......2.577 : 1................2.360 : 1
3rd......1.633 : 1................1.685 : 1
4th......1.193 : 1................1.312 : 1
5th..........1 : 1................1.000 : 1
6th......0.752 : 1................0.793 : 1
Rev......3.954 : 1................3.280 : 1

It takes a 10" clutch plate, and typically would have a diff ratio of 2.87 : 1. The engine is a NA V6

If I find more, I'll let you know

Cheers

With a first gear ratio like that sounds like it's a 4WD box.

Definitely not a 4WD, but a 2WD 4 door sedan. V6 N/A too. Was also surprised when I looked up the option string to see the ratio as well.

The tyres are 235/45x17's as well.

I'm still digging Confused

From memory the V160 was available in 1995+ Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 models.

The 3000GT runs an east to west style 4WD box.

My bad Embarassed Assumed engine config was similar to the 300ZX. They do use a Getrag, but the WM6G1 model.
