I'm only taking a stab in the dark here, but I'll put one vote up for 4.88

You will have to check the code on the ID plate as the HiAce has a few different ratios , The last diff I pulled out of a hiace was a 4.3 , And yeah a 4.88 would not be any good for the windsor I put a windsor into a 1990 2wd hilux with 4.5 gears and they were way to low , A mate has a v6 como motor in his hilux and he bought a set of 3.5 gears for about $400 , I think he bought them at a place in Rockhampton , A set of 3.5's would be Ideal in the MA .

When i was shopping round for a diff i found that the hiace open centre diffs were limited to taller ratios, i.e 4.11, 3.9 not 4.88, but then again becauce its a diesel that might change things or i could just be flat out wrong. Chase up the id plate and get the diff code of that, that will tell you if its g or f series diff and ratios and how many pinion wheels are in the diff. Personaly i wouldnt waste my time with a f or g series 2 pinion diff, the pick of the bunch would be a g series 4 pinion diff.

nah it was alreayd out of a car, so no idea on model code
The 302 will be wild, but needs to be sane on a highway.
3.5 would be perfect, but a 3.7/ 3.9 would suffice

SeptemberSquallIndustries wrote on Mon, 12 July 2004 20:33 | Hiace is (most commonly) a 1500kg (tare) 2400CC four-cylinder light commercial. When fully loaded ours can tip 3.5t (estimated gross).
Work it out, what sort ratio do you think it'd have to make it move, 3.1???? 2.8?????

Exactly, that's why petrol models (usually earlier 1800cc & 2000cc) often have 5.2:1 or 4.88:1 diffs.
Lots of weight for a small engine to lug away from traffic lights.
