hi guys
my car just got stolen last week, i was selling my car, and some guy came to look at the car, he wanted to check the odometer so i turn on the car and showed him, he just locked the doors and drove away....... i know it sound stupid i shouldn't let him in the driver seat, but does anyone know or heard of a similar situation and insurance company refuse to pay?
i have called up NRMA already, they say they will put my claim as under consideration, i am worry about that they won't pay me at all..........

If that's what happened then technically I imagine it would be considered a car-jacking.
A mate of mine had his Liberty RS stolen while he was standing beside it with the engine running. I think from memory he was insured with the NRMA and they spent months dicking him around while investigating it. They made him go to a lot of effort to prove he wasn't in cohorts with the thief before they ended up paying the claim..
What sort of car was it?

My uncle was selling his Ducati 748... A dude came to look at it and jumped on take it for a test ride... This was considered ok as his wife stayed in the passenger seat of the car... 1 min later, she's in the drivers seat and gone...
Ran the plates = stolen car... Bike gone...
Took months to get the money but yeah, they eventually payed up...
I wish you all the best in getting payed out man... Such a shame for this to happen to anyone...
And tips for everyone, don't ever let anyone test drive the car or get hold of the keys... Take photos of the ppl and copy their licenses...
It's such a shame at what todays society is like...

hi Lucid
thax for ur reply, would you mind asking your mate that had his car stolen, did the insurance company refuse his claim at first? or they just try to take their time in the investigation? because my friend was telling me that he heard that insurance company never payout to stolen car that had the key inside the car because it is negligent on the driver, so they are not responsible.
Thax alot for ur help

They didn't straight up refuse, but put him through a lot of hassles.. ie. made them present phone bills (home phone, not just mobile) itemising every phone call made so that the insurance company could check for suspicious activity etc etc.. basically gave him a big run-around.

First quote was $3800... They then found out that I was a co-founder of Sydney Rolla Club and that I was a mechanic and dropped it to $1283... I had to pay it cause they are the only ppl that will insure me...
Also, the car is fully in my name, I'm 19 and yeah, they gave me a 65% ncb out of no where ...

i absolutely hate NRMA they are fucked.
listen to this
when my escort blew up i though that i would cancel the insurance because it would be of the the road for a while.
so i went into a branch (castlehill) to cancel my policy.
the lady turns to me and says that it was already cancelled and im like WTF.
because all you need to cancel the persons insurance with NRMA aparently is to call up with their rego, name and address.
so to cut the long story short i was driving around for a month and a half with out insurance OF ANY KIND cos some dick head who didnt like me called up and canceled it for me.
