have you got access to an oxy torch? you'll need a large amount of heat or force to seperate them

Soak the turbo in a bucket of diesel for a day or more to penetrate the corrosion in the join, that's whats stopping you from separating the exhaust housing from the core. Rather than using the end of a screwdriver, use the blade of a knife, as it has a nice sharp edge & gradual taper (think hunting style knife ). Work you way at different points around the join to edge them apart gradually. Before you put it back together, remove all the corrosion with emery paper (or even better, a wire wheel on a grinder) and apply some high temp anti-sieze compound to the joining surfaces to save yourself the pain next time it has to come apart.
Cheers

hmmm. No oxy, got a few gas (butane) torches that might do the trick. Should I heat the exhaust housing more or just at the join. Didn't think it would be this damn hard.
Thanks Simon

Phil. Does the diesel hurt anything else, seals, wheels or anything..Why diesel instead of petrol?
Thanks for the ideas.

Diesel wont hurt anything. Its not necessary to immerse the complete turbo though, just sit it in the bucket with the compressor facing up, and just enough diesel to soak the exhaust housing & core. Diesel penetrates much better than petrol.
A butane torch is unlikely to get enough heat into the join to break the corrosion, there's a lot of cast metal to absorb the heat. I dont think you'll need an oxy to heat it though (instead of soaking in diesel), but it should work if you decide to go that way.

I have some really good penetrating oil also. Could I spray around the joint with that first before the diesel. That isn't likely to hurt anything is it?
Thanks for the help Phil, and Simon

Any penetrating agents designed to loosen corroded parts cant be a bad thing. I'd give it a go, then leave it in the diesel for at least a day.
Be patient, they are a pain in the ass (toyota turbos are the same) but you will get there Just don't tilt the housing too much in relation to the core as you remove it, cause the exhaust wheel will bind against the housing & you will damage it if you force it further.

Cool. I just gave it a soak with the penetrating oil..see how good this crap really is. Failing that - onto the diesel..
Thanks for the words of warning also.

Put the clamp back but dont tighten it, then give it a hit with a plastic sledgehammer.
If you give it a hit without the clamp you can break the turbin.

So what do you hit with tth plastic sledge..the exhaust housing itself? What does the clamp do there..do you mean just to stop it separating to quickly, then damaging the turbine due to it coming off crooked.
Thanks

Looking at your pictures, there's no need to mark it before you pull it apart, there is a locating pin in there which you'll need to cut off.
