Best free email?? Yahoo? Thu, 22 July 2004 12:06 Go to next message
Hi guys,
I'm about to send a couple of graduate job apps, and just realised that a uni email address might not be smart, as it will expire some time round when i graduate(duh).
Which is bad, if ive got dozens of wonderful, high paying job offers rolling in - likely Rolling Eyes

So, any recommendations?
Doesn't have to have magical features, just be reliable, spacious, and preferably able to be use with outlook - I seem to remember my (very)old yahoo addy i couldn't do that?

Any thoughts, suggestions would be great.
ta,
Nick

Yahoo provides pop3 access (Outlook) only if you pay.

Out of all the webmail providers that I've tried, GMail wins hands down. The interface is awesome!
Very smartly done.

Pop3 access is actually free i just discovered, you just have to suffer *yahoo delivers*, so my payment is to recieve a crappy music update thingo once a week.

Thanks for the advice people Smile

Really? I remember looking at this a little while ago and it was to paying members only.
Maybe it's a new response to GMail (just like the 100MB limit).

Yahoo.com.au gives you free pop3 access and as everyone has stated, 100mb and up to 10mb per email! Yahoo.com however does not allow pop3 access for free.

I have been using yahoo for years with pop3 and it is awesome, never had a problem really!

Oops, should have mentioned that i signed up to yahoo.com.au, sorry for the confusion Confused

Anyway, pop3 access is giving me grief, it can't "log into incoming mail server". When i test the settings in outlook its all good except that bit (ie it can find the server, send test email etc, just not log into incoming...) . This means when i send/recieve i get "the connection to the server was interrupted" "Check the port and SSL information"

I've triple checked the incoming/outgoing addresses, and in the port/ssl settings i've fiddled with secure/not secure option, but got nowhere - and no idea.

rvrolla, are your incoming & outgoing ports set to 100 & 25? With the "secure connection" boxes unchecked?

GMail, i've switched and am very happy with it. I also have a softhome account. They used to be great! But have since sold out to advertises to cover costs.
