Mild 20v - what do u reckon? Thu, 05 August 2004 04:17 Go to next message
The rebuild of the 20v for the racecar will consist of:

bottom end: hot tank, shave head & block, thin gasket (any suggestions?) new rings & bearings.
Top end: 3 way valve job, polished chambers, burr removal of ports - but not polished, cams with approx 20deg more duration (any suggestions???) cam verniers to tune them right, leave the throttle bodies alone.
Extras: Take the EMS and coil packs off the 16v and put them onthe 20v to run distributorless, GZE dizzy pickup for signal, stock extractors to 2.75" to 3.25" after collector - resonator only, no muffler. Dyno to sort out cams as well as timing & fuel. soft cut at 8400, hard cut at 8600.

Its going into an offroad buggy weighing in at about 870kg dry. We need a fair amout of mid range grunt to pull out of tight corners on the dirt, hence no wild cams. It'll be an engine for national races - up to 500km per race at finke, griffith, goodiwindi etc.

Does this sound like a reasonably powered & reliable setup for a 20v? any comments or suggestions would be really appreciated!!!

Ring Dave flood @ premier auto center 98321650.
The 20V setup we are developing for rally consists of similar spec cams verniers as well, ported head, no valve angles, 20V dizzy(no need to change this), GZE coils, and forge pistons, standard metal shim H/Gasket, standard throttles with ram tubes, still with VVT hooked up, custom manifold. A Similar setup with large cams is making 148Hp at the wheels in a IP car and haven't played with cam timing yet. This is the fifth engine built for this car (IP) previous was 130Hp using standard internals and only playing around with head, cams and exhuast.....

Get a Vtec or 2ZZGE, these get down and boogie for an N/A engines Laughing ... being more serious, Dave's better to talk to.

Hmmm... Motec.... Im good mates with billy croft - he dyno's our car for us. I love his office, so full of fun toys! But EMS I can afford...

I know a guy with a stock 20v with the only changes being induction and exhuast and he got 112 at the treads on 30" mud tyres. It was an import engine which he didnt even take the rocker covers off!
